I would say off-hand that he was a twin brother of Fred Lake and both Frank and Fred born about 1910 are the sons of John Lake of Hackettstown. There is an older brother named Roy. They are located on Mountain Avenue in Hackettstown during the 1930 Federal census. Frank age 20 and his new wife Elizabeth Siegler Lake are both age 20 living in the next household from John and Ida Lake. The page number 116, sheet #17A, enumerated in April 1930. Ida Lake wife of John Lake was born in PA, but the mother of the three boys was born in NJ, so Ida was not their mother and was probably a second wife of John. John Lake, Roy Lake and Frank Lake are laborers for a cemetery. The children of Frank and Elizabeth Lake, Richard and Marjorie, were likely born soon after this 1930 census. I could ask Michael Gesner if he has anything on this family unless you know exactly how they all fit into your Lake family members. Well I take that back about Ida Lake. She is the mother of the three boys who were born in NJ, father born NJ, mother born PA. In 1910 Ida was 25 born in PA & both parents born PA, with sons Roy Jeff Lake age 3, and twin sons Frank and Fred 7/12th of a year (born 1909). John Lake was age 30 and worked in a silk mill. The parents were married 1 time each, for 5 years. Ida had 5 children born but only 3 were living in 1910. [1910 Federal Census, Hackettstown, Warren County, NJ, Household #112-106, sheet #5B, enumerated 21 April 1910.] From: "Pamelyn" Date: Mon, 27 Feb 2012 22:51:21 -0500 A clue: John Lake (no middle initial) was born August 4, 1876 according to the World War I Draft Registration information on ancestry.com. In 1918 he lived in Hackettstown, and was married to Ida Betina Lake, his wife. He worked in the silk mill at Hackettstown, NJ. His signature just has his name: John Lake. I did not see a World War II card for him which means he probably died before 1942. John Deering Lake on the other hand was born on 3 October 1880 according to both the World War I Draft Registration and WW II Draft Registration cards. John D. Lake was born in Flocktown, NJ and lived in Northampton Co, PA in 1942. So it isn't John D. Lake. Another John Lake who lived in Hackettstown, Warren County, was another plain John Lake born 18 April 1881, married to Emily, and worked as a millwright for the Hercules Powder Plant in Hackettstown, in 1918. So that isn't the right John. This means the John Lake who married Ida was probably age 3 in the 1880 federal census, going on 4 years of age that August 1880. Very likely he is the John age 3, son of Jefferson and Mary E. Lake of Hackettstown. Jefferson Lake was 25, Mary E. age 19, John age 3, Edward age 1 when enumerated on June 1, 1880. Jefferson's occupation was "works in mine". At age 25 in 1880 he was born about 1855 in NJ. You don't have him on your list below, but perhaps he is the son of Jefferson born in 1828 and Sarah Crater Lake. The best way to tell who John Is, is to request a marriage certificate between John Lake and Ida about 1904-1905 probably in Warren County. I'll check with Michael Gesner to see if this John is in his database. From: "Pamelyn" Date: Tue, 28 Feb 2012 10:39:33 -0500 Michael and Janet are taking a trip for a few days starting this morning for their 42nd anniversary but he agreed that the John who was born in August 1876 was very likely the John son of Jefferson Lake that I found in 1880. He sent a link to ancestry's 1895 state census for Hackettstown where John is shown with Jefferson Lake, Emma Lake, Ann Lake, and Edward Lake. I just viewed the 1880 federal census to see John as age 3 going on 4 in Hackettstown with younger brother Edward. You mention a much older [Thomas] Jefferson Lake born about 1828. Could this younger Jefferson Lake born about 1855 be a son of the older man?
