Aletta W. Bush was the daughter of John Prall Bush and Mary Jane
Anderson. She married Sylvanus A. Codington on 9 June 1863 in Bound Brook,
and had six children: Louis B., Charles C., Clarence, Frederick B., Mary
and Estelle Codington.  Obituary: "Death of Mrs. S. A. Codington. Aletta,
wife of Sylvanus A. Codington, died yesterday morning about five o'clock,
at her home on West Second street, of consumption, aged 53 years. Deceased
was a daughter of John and Mary J. Bush, of this place. About fifteen years
ago the family removed from South Bound Brook to North Branch, and only a
little more than a month ago they took up their residence here, Mr. Codington
having disposed of his business at North Branch. Mrs. Codington leaves a
husband, three sons and two daughters. Funeral services will be held at
the house tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, and interment will be made in
the Bound Brook Cemetery." [The Chronicle, Bound Brook, Friday, November
8, 1895, p. 1.]  Her death certificate states that she died November 7,
1895, age 54 years, married. She was born, died, and lived in Bound Brook,
Somerset County, NJ. Cause of death was phthisis pulmonalis, with burial in
Bound Brook. [Source: 1895-1896 Somerset Co. Death Certificates, Cert. #C27,
NJ State Archives.] Note that her gravestone marker has an incorrect year
of death: 1896.
