END From a newspaper local to Montrose, Pennsylvania in July of 1910: BEGIN Auburn/South Montrose - John West, of Auburn, while a short distance below South Montrose, had his horse frightened by an automobile driven by Dr. Norris. The horse whirled completely around, throwing Mr. West out and tearing to the scalp a gaping wound. His clothes were nearly torn off and he also suffered a number of painful bruises. Dr. Norris took the injured man to the home of his brother in law, A. I. [sic] Lake, sewing up the scalp and making him as comfortable as possible. He is recovering and in a short time will be none the worse, it is hoped, for the thrilling experience. END From the Montrose Independent, Montrose, Pennsylvania dated May 17, 1945: BEGIN Mrs. John West Mrs. Elizabeth Lake West, widow of John West, died in the home of her son, Ernest West, at South Montrose, Monday morning, May 14, 1945, after a five weeks' illness. Mrs. West was in her eighty-seventh year, having been born in Auburn in Auburn township, Susquehanna county, Pa., June 13, 1858. She was a daughter of William and Margaret Linaberry Lake. The greater part of her life was lived in Auburn township, she having made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest West, a comparitively short time. Her late husband was a justice of the peace in Auburn township for many years. Her funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Methodist church at Auburn Corners, the Rev. Philip N. Pitcher, pastor of the Springville Methodist church, officiating. Interment in Jersey Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were her nephews: Clayton and Carlton Sterling, Searle, Homer, Frank and Leo Lake.
