Death: 25 DEC 1928 in Norristown, Pa. 521 Haws Ave. Burial: Riverside Cemetery Norristown, Pa. Note: James M. Powell lived with his mother's family, the William Harts, after his father was killed two miles east of Atlanta, Georgia during the American Civil War. William Hart's house was later known as the "Nettie Place" because Nettie Layton Diehl lived there. In that house in later years could be seen a doll carved from plaster of paris. This doll was reputed to have been a childhood toy of James M. Powell. After James's father Isaac Powell was killed his brother in law Abner Hart chose not to be drafted into the US Army. There was a secret wall constructed in the attic of the house where he could hide just one rafter back from the real end of the house. When Abner was on the top of Sideling Hill mountain he could look over toward his home and if his mother's large bed sheet was on the clothes line, if so it meant Captain Hull the draft law enforcer, and only Republican in Whips Cove at the time, was not in the area. Abner spent many nights sleeping under an overhanging rock near the Rockhouse on the east side of Sideling Hill Mountain. Other young men of similiar purpose used this shelter too. Their families would carry food up to the mountain to keep them from starving. Father: Isaac C.
