L. Lake Surprised by Relatives and Friends On Their Anniversary, Saturday. Saturday, Oct. 26th, 1932, marked the fiftieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Lake, of South Montrose. Their children and other relatives planned a surprise for the occasion, which was greatly enjoyed by about forty relatives and friends at an afternoon reception. In the evening a family dinner, with children and grandchildren present, to the number of sixteen was served. The occasion was also the 77th birthday anniversary of Mr. Lake. Both Mr. and Mrs. Lake were born in Auburn township, this county. After their marriage they moved to a farm near South Montrose, living there until their son, Homer G. Lake, now a prominent Montrose businessman, married and took over the farm. They have since lived in South Montrose, and have the high regard of a wide circle of friends, who trust each will enjoy many more years of happy wedded life. The honored couple were remembered with appropriate gifts and the event will long be cherished in the memories of the participants. END From the Montrose Independent, Montrose, Pennsylvania dated September 5, 1940: BEGIN Highly Regarded South Montrose Man Dies Friday Abram Lake, in His 85th Year, Succumbs to a Long Illness. Abram Lake, a lifelong resident of South Montrose, died in his home on Friday, Aug. 30, after an illness of many months. His age was 84 years. Mr. Lake was for many years a successful farmer at South Montrose, and he was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. He was born in Auburn township, this county, on Oct. 26, 1855. He is survived by his wife, who before marriage was Miss Alice Cool, daughter of George and Mary Cool, their wedding taking place Oct. 26, 1882; two sons, Homer G. Lake, of Montrose; and Searle W. Lake, of South Montrose, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth West, of Auburn township. Three brothers preceded him in death -- Marshall, Hampton and Enoch Lake. An only daughter, Blanche, wife of Dean Rogers, died in 1931. Mr. Lake was a fine type of citizen and a loyal friend. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends for his many fine quality of heart and mind. His funeral was largely attended on Monday afternoon, the Rev. H. E. Weavers officiating. Interment was made in the Jersey Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were Charles Ingraham, Audley Lott, Ellsworth Carey, Gordon Fish, Matthew McKeeby and Kenneth I. Norris. K. W. Bush had charge of funeral arrangements. END From the Montrose Independent, Montrose, Pennsylvania dated December 9, 1948: BEGIN Mrs. Alice Cool Lake, widow of Abram Lake, died at her home in South Montrose on Friday, Dec. 3, 1948, after a short illness. Mrs. Lake was a native of Auburn township, Susquehanna Co., Pa., and was eighty-eight years of age. She had lived her married life at South Montrose and following the death of her husband a number of years ago had continued her residence in the family home. She was a woman of most cheerful disposition and held in high regard by a wide cirlce of friends. She was a member of the South Montrose Community church and active in religious work for many years. She is survived by two sons, Homer G. Lake, of Montrose and Searle W. Lake, of South Montrose; six granchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2 in her late home, the Rev. F. W. Connell officiating. Interment was in Jersey Hill cemetery. The Pallbearers were Audley Lott, E. R. Carey, K. I. Norris, Vinol Roberts, Charles Newton and Matthew McKeeby. K. A. Bush had charge of funeral arrangements.
