Death Takes Van E. Lake
Former County Resident Passes in Des Moines; Rites tomorrow
Mr. Van E. Lake, 39, former resident of Johnson County, passed away at
9 o'clock Friday in Broadlawn general hospital, Des Moines. He had been
ill for two weeks.
Mr. Lake was born in Pleasant Valley township April 24, 1898, and lived in
the vicinity of Hills until he was 21 years of age when he moved to Des
Moines. He was employed as a mail clerk for the Rock Island lines for
10 years and later by the Yellow Cab Co. in Des Moines.
He is survived by his widow; his mother, Mrs. Susie Lake of Hills; a
daughter, Loretta Jean Lake of Des Moines; Three sisters Mrs. John Klaus
of Iowa City, Mrs. Clara Zimmerman of West Branch and Miss Ada Lake
of Hills; a brother, Mr. Aaron Lake of Davenport and a half-brother
George Moyer(Mauer) of Madelia, Minn. His father Mr. Morris Lake
died in Hills in 1932.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at
the Oathoat funeral home. The Rev. C.S. Williams will officiate.

Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery.
