Tillman George Washington Tillman, 80, a well known retired engineer on the Lehigh Valley Railroad, died at Easton Hospital at 2:55 this morning after an illness of two weeks. He was admitted to the hospital on November 15 for medical treatment. Mr. Tillman was born at Milford, N. J., a son of the late Peter and Matilda Garrison Tillman. For several years he was a contractor and builder in Phillipsburg. He was employed as an engineer on the Lehigh Valley on December 1, 1893. In 1920 he was off for a while on a sick leave but he resumed work and on March 1, 1929, was retired on a pension. He had resided in Wilson Borough since 1907 and had many friends in this vicinity. He lived at 1803 Washington Boulevard. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. May Harrison Tillman, a son, Dr. W. Gilbert Tillman, of 1730 Washington Boulevard, Wilson, and a sister, Mrs. Walter S. Myers, of Bridgewater. He was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, Easton and Independence Lodge No. 142, F. and A. M., Hackettstown, N. J., being a past master of that lodge, and also of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Veterans' Association. Tillman, died at 5:45 o'clock yesterday afternoon at her home, 1803 Washington boulevard, of paralysis, after an illness of one month. Mrs. Tillman was born at Little York, N. J. on April 19, 1857, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Matilda Harrison. She had lived in Easton and Wilson Borough since 1907 and had many friends in this vicinity. Her husband, who was a Lehigh Valley Railroad engineer, died in 1934. Her only survivor is a son, Dr. W. Gilbert Tillman, of 1730 Washington boulevard. Mrs. Tillman was the last surviving member of her family. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, South Second street. Gilbert Tillman, Physician, Dies In Hospital At 72 Dr. William Gilbert Tillman, 72, practicing Wilson physician for nearly a half-century, a past officer in several medical organizations, and a civic leader in Wilson for many years, died today at 1:25 a. m. in Easton Hospital. Dr. Tillman's home was at 1730 Washington boulevard. He had been active in his medical practice, which he began in 1908, until last Monday, when he was stricken with a heart attack and admitted to the hospital. He was a past president of the Northampton County Medical Society, holding that office in 1931, and was a former secretary of the society. He served on two different occasions as first vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, once from 1933 to 1934, and again from 1938 to 1939. Dr. Tillman was a former president of the Easton Hospital medical staff, and at his death was a member of the emeritus staff. He had served as an associate in the roentgenologt department at the hospital for several years, and before that was a member of the visiting staff. He had been president of the Fairview Building and Loan Association in Wilson since it was incorporated in 1921. Dr. Tillman was a member of the old Wilson Township School Board and the old Palmer and Wilson Board of Health. His service on the health board began in 1911, when Wilson was part of Palmer Township. He remained a member of the board when Wilson Township was formed in 1913, and served on that body until a short time after the borough was incorporated. Born in Phillipsburg on Dec. 20, 1880, Dr. Tillman was a son of the late George and May Harrison Tillman. He attended Lafayette College in 1901 and 1902, and received his medical degree at Medico Chirurgical College, Philadelphia, in 1906. He served his internship at Elizabeth General Hospital, Elizabeth, N. J. In the early years of his medical practice in Wilson his offices were located at 1803 Washington boulevard. Dr. Tillman joined the Northampton County Medical Society in 1908. He later became one of the members of the committee which wrote the by-laws for the organization, and he was also one of the incorporators of the society in 1937. In 1947 he became an affiliate member of both the county and state medical societies, an honor paid to the older members of the profession. Dr. Tillman also was a former member of the House of Delegates of the state medical organization. From 1937 to 1938 he held the office of district censor of the state medical society's District No. 3. In former years he took part in various fund drives for charity organizations and community welfare projects in Wilson. He was a member and the first secretary of the old Easton Motor Club, the predecessor of the Northampton County Motor Club. Dr. Tillman also served as the physician at a number of industrial plants in the Easton-Phillipsburg area. Formany years he was physician for Treadwell Engineering Company, and early in his career he served in the same capacity at Taylor-Wharton Iron and Steel Company. In addition to his activity in the county and state medical societies, he was a member of the Lehigh Valley Medical Society and the American Medical Association. Dr. Tillman was also a member of First Methodist Church, Easton; Dallas Lodge 396; F. & A. M. Easton; Lehigh Consistory, Allentown, and Ralph Temple of the Mystic Shrine, Reading. He is survived by his wife, the former Olive Mack Burroughs. His first wife, the former Sadie Elizabeth Hillyer, died in 1918. His second wife, Margaret Reynolds Coe Tillman, died in 1935. END
