From Esther Doyle Read on 6 Feb 2003: BEGIN MILTON CLIFFORD GIBBS6, was born 29 December 1876 in Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died 1957. Milton is listed on the 1900 census as a resident of his parents's household. He worked as a farm laborer (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 189, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 2B, 3 June 1900). Milton married later in 1900, on 7 November, Lillian Mae Albertson, the daughter of Edger L. Albertson and Margaret O. DeWitt. Lillian was born 7 November 1879 and died 25 October 1961. Lillian's sister, Jennie, married Milton's brother, James. In 1910, Milton and Lillian lived in Blairstown Township, Warren County. They were renting a farm on Mount Hermon Road outside the town of Blairstown. Their household included Milton and Lillian, their six year old daughter Helen, and thirteen year old Charles Peters who was their hired man (1910 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 123, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 6B, lines 61 through 64, 23 April 1910). The 1920 census places the Gibbs family in Blairstown Township. Milton was still a general farmer (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 159, Blairstown Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 1B, 3 January 1920). The 1929 History and Directory of Warren County New Jersey lists M.C. Gibbs of Hope as associated with the Cannery and Mrs. M.C. Gibbs as a housewife (Shampanore 1929:10P). According to the 1930 census they were living in the village of Hope on Main Street. However, they owned property valued at $5000. Milton was a general farmer. Three of the couples's children lived with them: Harold, Marion and Earl. The family did not own a radio (1930 United States Federal Census Enumeration District 21-11, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey Sheet 1B, 3 April 1930). Milton and Lillian are buried in the same plot with Milton's parents. Their stones were field checked 10 June 2000 (see inscriptions above). END
