From Esther Doyle Read on 6 Feb 2003: BEGIN JAMES "WARREN" GIBBS6, was born 15 June 1881 at Meadow View Farm, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey and died 19 August 1916, Easton, Pennsylvania. He was known as "Warren". In 1900, Warren Gibbs lived with his parents and attended school (1900 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 189, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 2B, 3 June 1900). Warren married on 8 June 1907, Jennie Belle Albertson, the daughter of Edgar L. Albertson and Margaret O. DeWitt. She was born 7 February, 1887 in New Jersey and died 24 February 1948 in Los Angeles, California. Jennie's sister, Lillian, married James's brother, Milton (Allen 2001). Warren Gibbs died in 1916. Jennie was left to raise two small children on her own. In 1920, she and her two children lived in Hope Township. They owned their home free and clear of mortgages. Jennie was not employed outside of the home (1920 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 159, Hope Township, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 1B, 3 January 1920). Jennie lived at 419 Greenwich Street in Belvidere in 1930. Both of her children, James and Ruth, resided with her. Jennie also had a boarder, 22 year old Charles L. Hufford, a native of Pennsylvania. Charles worked as a checking clerk in a silk dying plant. Jennie's son James also worked in the silk dying plant. He was employed as a dyer (1930 United States Federal Census, Enumeration District 21-3, Town of Belvidere, Warren County, New Jersey, sheet 13B, 15 April 1930). By 1934, Jennie and at least Ruth, had moved to Cleveland, Tennessee. An item in the "HOPE" section of the Blairstown Press of 7 June 1934, announces a visit by Jennie and Ruth to the home of Jennie's sister Lillian Mae Albertson Gibbs (wife of Milton C. Gibbs, brother of Jennie's late husband). Other guests included Jennie's niece, Helen Gibbs Allen (wife of Cline Allen and daughter of Lillian Albertson Gibbs). Mrs. Jennie Gibbs and daughter Ruth of Cleveland, Tenn., Mr. and Mrs. Cline Allen and family, near Delaware were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. M.C. Gibbs. Jennie's great-nephew, Ralph W. Allen (son of Cline and Helen (Gibbs) Allen) writes that "The article about our family visiting the Grandparents is interesting. Those articles are written by a designated person of the community. In this case, that would be Mrs. Minnie Westbrook. Family visits, or almost anything enacted was probably news. I was back from Florida, with my Grandparents that winter. Also my sister, youngest, was just born before we returned..." (Allen, personal commuication 2 June 2004). Jennie eventually settled in Los Angeles, California, she died there in 1948. Warren is buried in St Johns of Hope Church Yard, Hope, Township, Warren County, New Jersey in the same plot with his parents. There is a stone for Jennie in the Gibbs family plot, but it is not known whether she is buried in California or New Jersey. Their stones were field checked on 10 June 2000, see above for the inscription. END
