Mrs. Daniel Morgaret and Son Lew Thrown Out of their Vehicle on East Wayne Street. Mrs. Morgaret, wife of Daniel Morgaret, a farmer living on Findlay road, about eight miles from the city, and son, were injured in a runaway about 8:30 o'clock this morning. Mr. Morgaret and son Lew, aged about twelve years, were driving into the city on East Wayne street, in a buggy drawn by a single horse. The vehicle contained some produce, and as Mrs. Morgaret was going up the grade to the L. E. & W. tracks, a bicyclist came up from the opposite direction. The horse frightened and shied. The animal became unmanageable to the woman who was driving, and turning around, ran toward Mayo's warehouse, when Frank McCauley, employed by Mayo, and who realized the danger of the occupants, ran out to their assistance. When he reached the outside of the building, the horse had changed its course and was going across the street, when the vehicle was upset in the gutter east of Gus Heitzler's saloon, the occupants being thrown against the stone curbing. The horse continued and was caught a couple squares away. Mrs. Morgaret and the boy were both unconscious when McCauley reached them. Both were bleeding from wounds on the head, Mrs. Morgaret having a gash several inches long over her left eye, which was discolored almost instantly. There was also a gash on the right side of her head and her neck was black and blue from bruises. Her clothing was torn and it was thought SHE WAS FATALLY INJURED. The boy's injuries consisted of several gashes on the top of his head. They were carried to the vacant lot in the rear of Heitzler's saloon and laid in the shade. Residents in the vicinity turned out and did what they could for the injured until the physicians, who were summoned by telephone, arrived. A cot was furnished and the unconscious form of the woman laid upon it. Drs. Terwilliger and Kahle were the first to arrive and by the time they reached the scene the boy had regained consciousness enough to give his name and in about half an hour was all fully conscious. Mrs. Morgaret was more seriously hurt however and Grosjeans ambulance was summoned and the injured woman conveyed to Mrs. Myres hospital on South Elizabeth street. She regained consciousness some time after reaching the hospital and her wounds were dressed. The left side of Mrs. Morgaret's face, upon which the force of the fall was received, is paralyzed since the accident, but it is not thought to be serious. The physicians are of the opinion that it is only temporary. Those who witnessed the runaway say it is a miraculous that they escaped without more injuries than they received as all expected to find the victims of the accident dead when they reached them.
