END text within [] my notes - MEL From: tomRobbins@comcast.net Sent: Thursday, May 19, 2005 7:40 PM BEGIN I believe David Robbins who bought the house in 1818 is related. I looked at the documents Wilma sent me and there is a passage from "Genealogical and Personal Memorial of Mercer Co., New Jersey Vol 1. This passage relates to the Robbins cementary and states: "The next oldest stone is rudely marked 'M. R. 1723.' There are a great many old graves, marked only by common field stones, and some of these are very likely to be still older. At that early date it was only in exceptional cases that gravestones bearing inscriptions were erected, and particularly was this the case among those who were identified with the Friends. The oldest document relating to this ground as a burial place is a 'Release,' dated December 12, 1762, 'Daniel Robins [55.25, child i or 82., child i] to Moses Robbins [55.11], Joseph Robbins [55.12], Daniel Robbins [55.13] of Allens-Town, Nathan Robbins [41.16], Xebulon Robbins [41.8], and Moses Robbins, Junr. [41.6],' of one acre of land 'wherein the family of the Robbins have frequently buried their dead.' March 3, 1796, a second 'Release' was given by Nathan [41.16] and Zebulon Robbins [41.8], then the only survivors, to David Robbins [55.13, child v], George Robbins, Antrim Robbins [30.27], Ephraim Robbins, Ezekiel Robbins of Allentown, Elijah Robbins and Isaac Robbins. A third 'Release' was given September 16, 1847, by George and Ephraim, the surveyors, to Elisha Robbins [30.58, child iii], Jacob F. Robbins [30.20, child ix], Timothy Robbins and Nathan Robbins, the latter two of whom now hold it in trust." I believe the 1647 reference should be 1847 and David did have a son by the name of Elisha. Does anyone own a copy of the "Genealogical and Personal Memorial of Mercer Co." and could they look to see if it lists David's parents? Annetta Poley 6/13/04 I came across this very informative old posting (1999) to the Monmouth Co NJ Mailing List which identifies the folks you asked about. (I have just started researching the Robins/Robbins family. My connection is Abigail Robbins (born 1787) who married Thomas Debow. They are buried in the Robbins Burial Grounds, with some of their children.Abigail is apparently the daughter of Joseph Robbins and Jane Hoopes; Joseph is the son of Joseph Robbins and Leah Clayton) THIS WAS WHAT WAS POSTED TO THE LIST: Originally posted by Thomas H. Hutchison, Jr: This was found in a scrap book of newpaper clippings. I thought it might be of interest to some of you Robins (Robbins) Family Hunters. It was a communication that was printed in the Messenger Press of Allentown, NJ. About the only date I can give it is the year on the back of the clipping and the date of the letter in the article, 1940. Tom It read as follows: Communications. About the Robbins Family. James West, of near Allentown whose family descends from the Aaron Robbins mentioned below, brings up in the following communication regarding this family that was so prominent in the early days of this portion of Monmouth county: 'Kirklynn,' Morrisville, PA October 14, 1940.
