Posted by: "Tracey Marcelo" tracey.marcelo@gmail.com BEGIN Date: Sat Oct 21, 2017 7:10 am ((PDT)) The Daniel b. 1666 owned the property near Flocktown. It is the property described in this survey: From: Robins, Robbins of New Jersey page 222. Book A, page 186, Hunterdon County south branch of Rarington (Raritan) River 1714, Survey 333 acres to Daniel Robins By virtue of a Warrant from the Council of Proprietors bearing date ye 10th day of March 1714 surveyed this tract of land unto Daniel Robbins in _____________________ ye head of ye South Branch of Rarington River in Hunterdon County  Beginning at a white oak tree Corner of Marcy Daurdwart’s (?) land thence Southeastwardly thirty degrees fifty six chains to a Corner marked DR (2) Thence Northeastwardly sixty degrees sixty three chains to a corner black oak tree marked DR (3) Thence N. Inspected and approved by ye Committee of Proprietors and ordered to be recorded John Wills Clerk Transcribed 3/5/2006 by John Wm Taylor Located near Middle Valley; in 1739 this area became Morris County. From "Early Germans in New Jersey" by Theodore F. Chambers, Printed Dover NJ 1895, pg 172: "David Zofrin (Sovereign) bought the Daniel Robins tract of 333 acres, which had belonged originally to Samuel Johnson. This land located in the area called Flocktown in Morris Co. near Schooley's Mountain." Daniel Robins settled in Amwell twp. Also, please note that the Chambers book doesn't say Daniel Robins sold the property to David Sovereign. It only says that David Sovereign bought the tract. I have yet to find a deed record of this purchase. We don't know when David bought it or from whom. As you say, David wasn't born until 1757, so this would mean he bought it probably in the 1770s or 1780s or after. In 1737, after Daniel b. 1666 died, a mortgage was taken out on the property by my ancestor, Joshua Robbins. Here is a transcript of that mortgage: LDS Film # 1028302 Hunterdon Co. Loan Office Account Books and Mortgages No. 8 Joshua Robins of the Township of Amwell Township in the County of Hunterdon Doth Convey by Deed of Mortgage  for Consideration of Twenty Pounds to him in hand paid by the Commisioners of the Loan Office of the County of Hunterdon the following tract or parcel of Land Situate in the Township of Lebanon and County aforesaid and is butted and bounded as follows  VIZ Beginning at a White Oak tree Corner of Francis Davenport’s land and marked FD thence south Easterly thirty degrees and fifty six chains to a corner hickory tree marked DR thence North Easterly Sixty Degrees sixty three chains to a Corner black oak tree marked DR thence North Westerly thirty degrees fifty six chains to a corner maple tree marked IK thence South Westerly sixty degrees sixty three chains to the first mentioned corner containing three hundred and thirty three acres. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand The Twenty fifth day of March Anno Domini 1737. Joshua Robins Signed in the presence of James Neilson, Job Robins As you can see, the property description in this mortgage matches the description of Daniel Robins survey, exactly. This Joshua I believe is a son of the Daniel b. 1666 and I believe he inherited this property when his father died around 1737. You will find my research about this Joshua at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~marcelo/Robbins/JoshuaRobbinsNJ.html [defunct] I have identified only 2 of this Joshua's children and I have no idea if he had any more than these two: -- Daniel Robins (born between 1730-1740)  who married Sarah Blatchley (See my research at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~marcelo/Robbins/DanielRobbins.htm [defunct] -- Joshua Robins Jr. (born around 1740) who married Mary Blatchley (See my research at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~marcelo/Robbins/JoshuaRobbinsOntario.html [defunct] The Blatchley sisters were from Morris Co. However, both couples lived in Sussex Co. by around 1758 or a bit earlier. Daniel b.1730-1740 is on the Oxford twp tax list of July 1773. By 1793, Daniel b. 1730-1740 had died. His widow, Sarah Blatchley Robins and 6 of her children (all young adults and some of whom were already married) moved to Ontario Canada. At least two of their children stayed in Sussex Co. The two that stayed were Miller Robins b. 1758 and Absolom Robins born between 1760-1770. (Daniel and Sarah are my ancestors. Their daughter Mary married John Clark before 1793.) Daniel's brother, Joshua Jr. b. 1740 also moved to Ontario and was there by 1794; although it's possible he went at the same time as Sarah and her children. Interestingly, David Sovereign (mentioned in Chambers' book as buying the Flocktown property) moved to Ontario in 1802. These Robins were "thick" with the Swayzes and the Hopkins of Sussex Co NJ. Many of the Swayzes and Hopkins were noted Loyalists who also went to Ontario. In fact, sometime between 1795 and 1804 in Ontario, Joshua Robins Jr. married for a second time to Mehtiable Swayze Hopkins, the daughter of Israel Swayze and Mary Pitney of Sussex Co. NJ, and the widow of Peter Hopkins, who died in Sussex Co. around 1785. All that said...when we are trying to identify Robins in Sussex Co. in the 1760s-1790s--it is VERY difficult. There were many Robins living there in that period who left few traces, record-wise. No deeds. No wills. Not even tax records. I don't know who the parents of Sarah b. 1766 who you asked about were. Marshall has a good theory. But keep in mind, there are Robins in that area of Sussex Co. (Oxford, Independence, Hackettstown, etc.) who I don't think we've even identified because of the lack of records.  I've only identified two of Joshua Robins Jr's children (Job and John). So was this Sarah one of his daughters? Did Joshua Jr. even have any daughters? No idea. And...Elisha Robins also lived in that area of Sussex at that time, and I've only identified two of his children (Elijah Jr. and Jane). Date: Sun Oct 22, 2017 6:31 am ((PDT)) Also I see I made a typo in my post...Elisha Robbins' son is Elisha Robbins Jr. who died before 28 Nov 1763. My fingers seem to be stuck on typing "Elijah" instead! END transcription of Records->Misc->55.75.pdf from , 16 Oct 2009 ... BEGIN JOSHUA ROBINS LDS Film # 1028302 Hunterdon Co.
