I'd like to mention for the Robbins researchers that there is no evidence to prove Hannah Pack Robins died in 1751 in NC. The last mention of Hannah Pack Robins was in the 1709 will of her husband Joseph Robins. At that time she was living in NJ & expecting a child. The book "A Reed-Robbins Family of the Southeastern United States" compiled by Barnum, Bedford, Reed, & Swaim speculates that Hannah Pack Robins may have moved to North Carolina with one of her children. There is no reason to doubt this event may have occurred however, the death date & place of Hannah Pack Robins still remains unknown. Research only; Research of Richard Robbins and Joseph Robbins, Jr of Rowan NC from 1750 to 1770 and Randolph Co. North Carolina. Sister Bethiah Robbins m/ John Nation. Richard Robbins b/ 1709 possible unborn son of Joseph Robbins and Hannah Anna Packe and brother to Joseph Jr who died in Rowan in 1754. Richard Robbins fatherless at birth grew up in New Jersey and no doubt came to Virginia where his brother Joseph and Sister Bethiah, who had married John Nation in New Jersey had migrated to Virginia. They all end up in Rowan Co before 1754, Rowan was formed from Anson Co in 1753. A Richard Robbins married Anne Race on 21 Mar 1728/9 in Monmouth, New Jersey. Is this the Richard that appear in Frederick Co Virginia then Rowan. There is enough good circumstantial evidence that proves the family connections of these Robbins of Rowan Co NC and the DNA evidence of the descendants of Richard matching to Daniel Robbins of New Jersey. I looked at the Ilston Book at their archives, a listing of members of a secret Baptist church in Swansea during the 17th and 18th centuries and still found nothing." John German Research; STATEMENT QUESTION; Richard Robbins was born abt. 1712 near Swansea, Glamorganshire, Wales. He married Anna Parsons. All of his children were born in Wales. What makes you think they are not from Wales? Aside from an unreliable tradition, no one has ever offered a single shred of evidence that Richard Robbins or his children were from Wales or even of his wife's name. By evidence I mean a primary government or church document, a private Bible or other such ancient family record, or even a citing of a preserved and believable oral source. Then there is the suspicious claim by the Welsh adherents that Richard was not related to Joseph Robins from New Jersey not withstanding that Richard witnessed his will. The Welsh adherents also claimed Richard Robbins arrived in NC from Wales in the 1750s but there is record of Richard Robbins in Frederick Co., VA, in 1745; Joseph Robbins was also in that county at that time. Then Mrs. Lehman tried to feed me a nonsensical story about three mysterious sisters who had gone to Wales and put together the genealogy and made a pact with each other to never reveal their sources - BALONEY! This same lame story is used by J.M. when his genealogy is challenged. Serious research has uncovered big errors such as Jacob being a supposed son of Elisha when in fact the 1750 and 1751 Dan River tax lists are evidence of Jacob being a son of Richard; many other names on these lists can also be traced back to Frederick Co., VA. There is the clam that Loyalist captain Michael was killed, but he survived the war and fled prosecution in NC by moving to SC. Another great big error was the combining of two James Robbins into a single person. By-the-way, descendants of the James who married Elizabeth Yount started a tradition that he was from Germany - its obvious that error was started by confusion with the Yount ancestry. Now we have the DNA evidence that descendants of Richard share a common ancestry with descendants of Daniel of Scotland who was the grandfather of Joseph. Richard is thus probably another grandson of Daniel who moved with Joseph to Frederick Co., VA, and then on to Rowan (now Randolph) Co., NC. A stake has been driven through the hearts of the Welsh story and Richard's fictional ancestry. "if there is any info known on Ian Robbins b. 1650, Issac b. 1670-80, or Elisha b. 1704 in Swansea, and Jacob b. 1738. . . . Additionally, there wives were Mary McGray b. 1650, Sarah McGray b. 1675, and Mary Wade b.unknown. Jacob's wife, Mary Wells, was born in North Carolina." Nobody has ever offered any evidence that the above Ian and Isaac Robbins are even real people let alone proven their connection to any American Robbins family. The only source that has ever been cited is an invisable research summary by three mythical women who went to Wales and made a pact to never reveal their sources - and by the way nobody knows where that summary is today either. In other words, I believe this genealogy is a hoax. Interesting, and undoubtedly controversial, are the test results of DNA samples from two descendants of Richard Robbins (b. c1710) of Rowan Co., NC. An unavoidable conclusion is that the providers of these samples share a common ancestor with tested descendants of Daniel Robins (b. c1627 Scotland - d. 1714 New Jersey). Richard Robbins witnessed the 1754 will of Joseph Robins Jr., a grandson of Daniel Robins. Hopefully, the genetic match with the New Jersey family will stimulate an interest in new research. As I interpret this 1751 list, I see a Richard Robbins is paying taxes for himself as well as for a Jacob Robbins and an Isaac Robbins. The taxable age at that time started at age 16 thus burdening fathers with additional taxes. Other names on this list appear in Rowan Co. court records suggesting this party of Robbins is also in what became Rowan (now Randolph) Co. Thus it seems we have evidence that Richard was the father of Jacob and Isaac. The evidence in the 1751 tax list is similar to the 1761 tax list of Rowan Co. used to support placing Michael Robbins as a son of Richard Robbins. This is very contrary to the recycled undocumented genealogies claiming Jacob was a son of Elisha I have found evidence of Richard Robbins in Frederick Co., VA, where Joseph Robins and his brother-in-law John Nation lived before moving to NC. Other names in these records are also found in NC along with Richard Robbins in the 1751 Dan River tax list. "Abstracts of Frederick County [Virginia] Orders, Book 1, 1742-1745": . . . . Co., 1891 / Spartanburg, SC: The Reprint Co., 1978), vol. II, pp. 692-693: Colonel Jephthah Robins Col. Jephthah Robins has for many years been a most conspicuous and influential member of the bar of Mississippi, and is worthy of mention in this record of the men who have been important factors in the development and cultivation of the resources of the state. He is a native of Pickens district, S.C., born in 1814, and is a son of Albert and Susan (Norton) Robins, natives of South Carolina and Virginia respectively. Albert Robins was a son of Michael Robins, a native North Carolina, and a farmer by occupation. When Albert was a mere lad his father removed to The father was one of a family of eight sons and four daughters. He and all his brothers were soldiers in the Revolutionary war. he lived to the allotted age of man, three score and ten years. He reared a family of four sons and four daughters, all of whom lived to be grown. Albert was next to the youngest child, and was reared in South Carolina, where he resided until ?. He then came to Fulton, Miss., where he lived at the time of his death, in 1849; he was seventy-eight years of age. His wife died two years later at about the same age. She was a consistent member of the Baptist church. To them were born three children: Levi died in South Carolina; Mrs. Arminda Copeland died in Fulton, Miss.; the Colonel was the second born. He passed his youth in South Carolina, and received his education in the common schools. When he had reached his twentieth year he went to Moulton, Ala., where he clerked in a dry goods store for one year. Thence he went to Fulton, Miss., in 1836, and there he was employed as a clerk for some time. He then engaged in the mercantile trade on his own account, and while in this business, he was elected treasurer of the county of Itawamba. After discharging the duties of this office for one term he was elected probate clerk for two years. he was then made clerk of the chancery court, the district comprising Itawamba, Monroe, Chickasaw and Tishomingo counties. He held this office eight years, and during that time he read law, and was admitted to the bar at Aberdeen, Judge Rogers presiding. He practiced his profession at Fulton until 1852, when he came to Lee county, and located at Guntown. For several years he devoted himself industriously to the law, but of late years, he has paid more attention to agriculture, and has turned his practice over to his son, John Quitman Robins, a partner of the Hon. John M. Allen. Colonel Robins was attorney for the Mobile & Ohio railroad, which position brought him many duties, and he still attends to all legal matters pertaining to the road. He is a man well read in all points of law and every class of literature. He is aman of rare judgement, quick insight and keep observation. He has won a wide reputation and his ability is recognized in all legal circles throughout the South. He was married to Eliza D. Allen, a sister of the Hon. J.M. Allen, a native of Virginia (See sketch of John M. Allen). Nine children were born to this union, one of whom is deceased: Mrs. Belle Gore, Mrs. Molliue Allen, John Q., Jephthah (deceased), William, James, Edwin, Annie and Harrison Lamar. The younger children are now attending some of the best educational institutions of the South, and all have had superior advantages in that line. Colonel Robins served on detached duty during the late Civil war, and was on intimate terms with Jefferson Davis, McNutt, Foote, Prentiss and Poindexter. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Aberdeen, but the lodge is no longer in existence. He and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal church. The Colonel is a selfmade man, and is fully deserving of the honors that have been conferred upon him, and entirely worthy of the high regard in which he is held in the state. John German research Michael Robbins, c1745-c1820, first appears as a second poll with Richard Robbins in a 1761 tax list of Rowan Co., NC, suggesting Richard Robins paid poll tax for himself and Michael Robbins thus giving us our evidence that Michael was Richard's son. Michael was still in Randolph Co., NC, during the 1779 tax assesments, but he appears to have sided with the Loyalists during the Revolutionary War and relocated to SC after that cause was lost [State Records of North Carolina and David Fannin's memoir]. Estate record of Michael Robins: Greenville County, South Carolina, estate papers, Michael Robbins [apt 12 file 18], South Carolina State Archives. "Greenville County estate papers of Michael Robbins [apt 12 file 18] from the SC State Archives. Named appraiseors are Pascal Rutledge, John H. As I interpret it, Richard Robbins is paying taxes for himself as well as a Jacob Robbins and an Isaac Robbins. The undocumented genealogies of the Robbins family place Jacob as a son of Elisha Robbins without any evidence to support the claim. END From: John W Taylor [Johntaylor6@juno.com] Sent: Sunday, November 27, 2005 7:54 PM BEGIN It is a known fact that the 4th child of Daniel & Hope Robins was Joseph (1670 NJ-1709 NJ) who wed Anna Peck in 1693. They lived in Monmouth County, NJ. Their son Joseph, Jr (1700 NJ-1754 NC) wed Elenor Nation and their daughter Bathiah wed in 1720 John Nation; both of these families moved to NC. We also know that Anna Peck Robins went to NC where she died. We also know that the 1709 will of Joseph, Sr says that Anna was with chld in 1709. The "Genealogical Journal of Randolph Co. Hist. Soc. NC', summer 1992 vol 16 #3 has a 17 page article on John Nation. This article says that John/Bathiah Nation likely came to the Lower Shenandoah Valley about 1733 with Benj. Borden of Old Monmouth Co. NJ; Borden patented 100,000 acres here. I have a 3 page 1963 letter from Mildred London, Coffeyville, KS, to noted Burlington Co., NJ genealogist John Haines. She states that she can prove that she is descended from Isaac Robins (1735-1808 NC) who died in Randolph Co. NC. She had a notebook of George Sawyer Miller, a Robins descendent, who wrote that Isaac's father was Richard Robins. She also said that Isaac had a brother Richard Jr. She also cites a 1769 Bill of Sale from Richard,Sr to Richard, Jr. She further cites the 1754 Rowan Co., NC will of Joseph Robins (Jr) witnessed by Richard Robins. From this, it seems likely that this Richard Robins was the child born in 1709 to Anna Peck Robins and that he moved with her to NC. In her letter, Mildred London suggests that the Monmouth Co. Orphan Court may have a record of the name of Anna Peck Robins child born in 1709. If Richard, the above must be true.
