From: Tracey Marcelo BEGIN Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2019 15:19:28 -0600 Have you ever run across a Barnet (or Barnett) Belles (Bellis) in your research? He died in Alexandria twp. Hunterdon around 1810. He left a will. His daughter Mary Bellis married a Richard Clark sometime before 1775. Barnett's father in law was Peter Fisher of Amwell, Hunterdon who died in 1775 and mentioned his grand daughter "Mary Clark wife of Richard Clark" in his will. When Barnett wrote his will in 1806, he said of his daughter Mary Clark "My daughter, Mary's share, to be held by my son John until my daughter, or her heirs, calls for it, and if never called for, then to be divided equally between my 3 sons." From this, it sounds to me like Mary and her heirs had left the area and could not be reached. Like perhaps ..."the wilderness": Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Upper Canada...etc. Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2019 20:07:56 -0600 This is what I have about Mary Clark, wife of Richard Clark. 1775, June 19. Fisher had a daughter Mary Bellis in the 1750s. Mary Bellis married Richard Clark of Hunterdon County before 1775. Barnet's wife's name in his will was Mary. So I'm assuming she was the mother of Mary Bellis Clark. The parents of Barnet Bellis' wife were Peter Fisher and wife Marey. Mary Fisher was probably born in the 1720s-1730s. The one interesting thing I noticed was that in Peter Fisher's will he talks about grand children Peter Bellis, Philip Bellis and Mary Clark "and her 2 brothers" (referring back to this Peter and Philip.) HOWEVER, Barnet also had a son John named in his will. So...was John NOT a grand child of Peter Fisher? (born to a different wife of Barnet Bellis?)  Or...was John born after 1775 when Peter Fisher died and therefore not named in his will. Not sure. In any case, I believe this Richard Clark who is married to Mary Bellis is the same Richard Clark mentioned in these deeds: Sussex Co. deeds (from Marshall Lake) dated - 2 Feb 1804 grantor - Daniel ROBINS of Gainsborough Twp, Lincoln Co, ON, Canada grantee - Isaac ROBINS of Knowlton Twp, Sussex Co, NJ amount - $100 lot - 4 tracts (216 3/4 acres) previous owners - tract 1, Richard CLARK (4 1/4 acres) 15 Apr 1779 tract 2, Adam & Elizabeth SNIDER (143 1/2 acres) 7 Aug 1793 tract 3, Daniel VAUGHAN (57 acres) 2 Apr 1795 tract 4, William SWAGG (12 acres) 22 Oct 1802 witnesses - John ARMSTRONG Jacob ARMSTRONG notes - Daniel ROBINS is identified as a heir of Daniel ROBINS, late of Knowlton Twp, died intestate Sussex Co. deeds (from Marshall Lake) dated - 19 Jun 1815 grantor - Jacob VAUGHAN of Gainsborough Twp, Lincoln Co, ON, Canada grantee - Isaac ROBINS of Knowlton Twp, Sussex Co, NJ lot - 4 tracts (216 3/4 acres) previous owners - tract 1, Richard CLARK (4 1/4 acres) 15 Apr 1779 tract 2, Adam & Elizabeth SNIDER (143 1/2 acres) 7 Aug 1793 tract 3, Daniel VAUGHAN (57 acres) 2 Apr 1795 tract 4, William SWAGG (12 acres) 22 Oct 1802 witnessed - 31 Jan 1816 witnesses - Ira SHERER Isaav READ judge - John ARMSTRONG notes - Jacob VAUGHAN is identified as a heir of Daniel ROBINS, late of Knowlton Twp, died intestate Jacob VAUGHAN is identified as the son-in-law of Daniel ROBINS, dec'd wife of Jacob VAUGHAN - Abigail recorded - 26 Jun 1824 and: Sussex Co., NJ Deed Book M P. 105  25 Sept 1804, Benjamin Smith of Knowton to Abraham Smyth of Knowlton.  $100 ... 15 acres in Knowlton adj Daniel Robins, George Savage & Bellard (?).  He bought of George Savage on 2 July 1779.  The chain of title goes like this:  Lot #108 in Governor William Penn's on 20 June 1716 for 5,000 acres to Jonathan Hampton on 26 Jan. 1760 to Christopher Frost on 1 April 1774 to Richard Clark on 1 Nov. 1777 to George Savage on 15 June 1778.  His name was spelled Smith at first but after that Smyth which is how he signed the deed.  Wits:  John Sander, Jacob Van Nawker.  On 18 March 1805 he deposed to Barnabas Swayze.
