Marriage record: BEGIN March 12th 1836 This may certify that I married Jacob Beck Jr. to Elizabeth Lake. END From the Belvidere Apollo, Belvidere, New Jersey dated July 14, 1899: BEGIN ...Mrs. Elizabeth Beck died at her home at Hainesburg on the 3rd, aged 80 years. END From "Beck Family History" by Leroy Beck DePuy (1.456) in 1984: BEGIN The fifth Beck generation was that of Jacob J. Beck (Jr.), 1815-64, and Elizabeth Lake, 1819-99. Married in 1836, he was 20 and she 17. If the Warren County Marriage Records are correct, their first son was born almost two months before his parents were married. There were twelve children in all; of these, Susan died in 1865 at 20 and Martin may also have died young since we lack information beyond his name. For five of the remaining ten we possess only their names and those of spouses. The other five are identified with birth and death dates for themselves and spouses (except for one spouse). Four children including Jacob J. Jr. were 15 or younger according to the family sequence (of birth) provided the writer. One day before his death, Jacob J. made a will, signed by an "X", naming his wife, brother and oldest son as executors. Somehow a picture comes through of a willful, formally uneducated man who "got religion" the day before death. Did he die at 49, leaving five of twelve children under twenty, because he was too stubborn to seek medical attention or did he die of a disease for which no effective treatment was known? As noted, he was the youngest of a long-lived generation. END From a BECK researcher: BEGIN Jacob J BECK is the son of Jacob BECK (12 Sep 1783 - 19 June 1863) and Anna Maria (Mary) SCHMIDT (2 Jan 1791 - 2 Oct 1860). Jacob and Anna Maria moved to Warren County, NJ. Both are buried in Hainesburg Cemetery, Hainesburg, Warren Co, NJ. Jacob BECK is the son of John Jacob (George) BECK (bap 2 Dec 1736, died 1819) and Anna Maria WEIDMAN (1755 - 1821). John Jacob, at the age of 15, came to America on 26 Sep 1752 on the Ship Richard & Mary with his father. John Jacob saw service in the Revolutionary War as an Assistant Matross Pennsylvania Artillery, Continental Line (ref: Pa Archives, 5th series, vol 4, page 183). Matross is a soldier in a train of artillery, who is next to the gunners, and assists them in loading, firing, and sponging the guns. They carry firelocks, and march with the store-wagons as guards and assistants. Matross: from the Armoric Language (Brittany, France) Martelot, meaning colleague. John Jacob BECK is the son of Johannes Georg (Hans Jerg) BECK (bap 14 May 1705, d May 1775) and Anna Maria GUCKER (born 7 Feb 1709). They were married 21 Jun 1729. Anna Maria is the daughter of Heironymus GUCKER and Agnes Vogalin. Johannes Georg arrived in Philadelphia in 1752 (1), the son of Ulrich BECK (died 20 May 1729) and Margaretha SCHRAYIN. From St. George Church records ... Ulrich BECK respected citizen and farmer lived at Ober Riexingen in Wurtemburg, Germany. He and his family were members of the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Ober Riexingen is "Platt Deutch" for Oberiexingen and is situated on the Enz River about 30 miles northwest os Stuttgart.
