BEGIN Name: Rachel Daniels Sex: F Birth: 20 MAR 1834 in PA Death: 28 NOV 1911 in Whips Cove, Fulton Co., PA Occupation: Homemaker Note: The 1850 U.S. Census shows Rachel DANIELS age 16 living in Bethel Township, Fulton Co., Pa. in Household Number 36 with Rebecca WINK age 45 as head of household. Also there was Henry Van Cleef age 10. In her later years Rachel Daniels Hart lived across the Whips Cove Valley from her half sister Annie Daniels Plessinger. The two sisters were rather close and they shared their hobby of landscaping and gardening. Rachel had a huge Boxwood growing in front of her house and it still was surviving there in 1996 when Gene Hart was the owner. In the 1930's Pauline Hart showed the author how fresh green leaves from the boxwood could be put on the top of a hot wood fired cookstove and when the leaves got hot they would pop like a small firecracker. Annie Daniels Plessinger's boxwood left the cove in 1937 on a truck bound for Harrisburg, Pa. Mack Leasure related how the boxwood had been surrounded by a trench just the dimensions of a truck bed about a year before the move. This was done to adjust the roots to that size before the move. In her final illness Rachel fell outside her barn. She had suffered a stroke and was paralyzed on one side. In her efforts to rise she had made a circle in the dry dust of the driveway. She was carried into the house and survived for only a few days.
