Matthias was a conductor on the Central Rail Road for 15 years - the High Bridge Branch. Matthias is the son of Adam J. Apgar (1797 - 1852) and Mary Philhower (about 1797 - December 3, 1859, Matthias' second spouse). Adam is the son of Jacob Apgar and Hannah Charity Pickel. Mary and Matthias were married in about 1820. Christopher Philhower was born in 1754 (according to the DAR ?) or in October of 1763/1783 ? in Tewksbury Township. He died February 22, 1846 in Hunterdon County. Elizabeth Fox was born in 1771 and died on May 4, 1834 in Lebabon, New Jersey. Both Christopher and Elizabeth are buried in Fairmount Presbyterian Cemetery Churchyard in Fairmount, New Jersey. Christopher was in the Revolutionary War. No pension. He was a private in the Army. Christopher is the son of Philip (Jurg) Philhower (Wuhlhauer) and Margaretha (Anna Maria) Mueller. Philip was born about 1724 in Heilbron, Germany and Margaretha was born in 1728 in Germany. Philip is the son of George Wuhlhauer. Philip arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1748 on board the ship "Patience". Adam J. Apgar died on April 26, 1877 in Califon. Jacob Apgar was born in 1746 and died in 1814. Hannah Charity Pickle (rather than Pickel) was born in 1754 and died in 1846. From notes of Rick Novak Revolutionary Soldier Grave Christopher Philhower a soldier of the Revolution, died at his residence in Tewksbury Township, in this county, on the 24th ult. he entered the army when but 16 years of age, and was present at the bloody sieges of Monmouth, Staten Island, and many others. Was perhaps living with daughter Mary Apgar in Tewksbury in 1840. Recorded in 1830 census as a resident of Tewksbury with apparent wife Elizabeth. Tax records show him living in Tewksbury Township, Hunterdon County in 1793. Was a veteran of the Revolution, receiving a pension late in life.
