John Scofield, father of Henry, was born Dec 5 1803 in Dutchess Co NY. Early
in life he learned the trade of shoemaker which he commenced in Penn Yan,
Yates Co NY about 1827. He married Mar 29 1829 to Mary Johnson b Dec 25
1811. They reared 8 children. They came to Washtenaw Co in 1834 and in 1837
moved to Grass Lake Twp and in the Spring of 1852 moved to Leoni Twp.

John was born 5 Dec 1803 Dutchess Co NY and was living in Penn Yan NY
by 1827. He married on 29 Mar 1829 to Mary Johnson who was born 25 Dec
1811 NJ. In the 1850 census of Grass Lake Twp they had: Oliver age 18,
Mary age 16 both b NY, Almira age 14, Henry b 14 Sep 1838, Margaret age 9,
Franklin age 2 all b Michigan. They were in the 1860 census with Henry (&
wife), Margaret, Franklin and Emily age 10, Herbert age 6 in their household.
