Mr. Wolverton, whose parents came from England shortly after the Revolution, spent his boyhood and early manhood on his father's farm near Canaseraga, the youngest of twelve children and the last to pass away. Spending the first eight years of married life at their home in New York, the Wolverton's moved to South Dakota in March 1883, locating in Capitola township, where they have resided continuously since, a period of 44 years, 8 months. While in young manhood he united with the Methodist Episcopal church organized in a little log schoolhouse near their New York home. Ever a student of the Bible, he at all times endeavored to follow its teachings and live a Christian life. Mr. Wolverton was the oldest of the few remaining pioneers who have seen the community and town grow from a broad bare prairie to one of the most prosperous and progressive sections of the state. Being instrumental to this country's early growth, his interest was vital until the infirmities of age prevented further activity. After in failing health for nearly two years, the end came peacefully after an illness confining Mr. Wolverton to his bed for the past two months, the final summons coming at six a.m. Friday, November 4.
