From the Hunterdon Gazette, Flemington, New Jersey dated January 6, 1858: BEGIN Married, Dec. 25th, at Klinesville, by Rev. B. Stelle, Mr. John Kuhl, to Miss Thisby Stevenson. END from http://www.njsuttonfamily.org BEGIN Hunterdon County Democrat Flemington, NJ 1838-1888 Dec 30, 1857, Vol XX, No. 20 (1060) Married On Saturday the 26th inst., at Klineville, by the Rev. B. Stelle, Mr. John Kuhl, to Miss Thisby Steveson. END From "Facts and Fantasies of Franklin" by J. E. Stout in 1995: BEGIN 19 December 1929 The Kuhls, or 'Cools' as in many old deeds, were numerous about the village [Cherryville, previously known as Dogtown]. They were emphatically farmers, and generally prosperous. Christopher owned a farm in 'Guinea Hollow' [Dwelling 7, Farm 6], a broad and in spots rugged ravine lying northward at the road to Young's Mills. Elisha and Risler owned adjoining farms on that road [Dwelling 6, Farm 4]. John Kuhl bought the 'Uncle Billy' Rockafeller farm near Klinesville, and made it produce grain and peaches in abundance. He had three sons, Elisha [Dwelling 6, Farm 4] and Christopher [Dwelling 7, Farm 5] by his first wife, and Pierson, present owner of the farm, by the second. Elisha is a farmer near Three Bridges; Christopher - 'Kit Carson' from boyhood - roamed about the 'wild west' most of his life and died there a few years ago. END NOTE - 'Kit Carson' mentioned above would not be THE Kit Carson. THE Kit Carson was born on December 24, 1809 in Missouri. An email from John William Kuhl (3.358, child i) dated November 26, 2001 referring to the quote above: BEGIN Ed Stout was a friend and fellow trustee of several organizations. Unfortunately, he died several months ago. The John Kuhl was my great, grandfather; Elisha was my grandfather, and my great uncle Kit was an Alaskan klondiker but never found gold. He did deal Faro for the famous promoter, Tex Rikard until coming home to die in 1920. END
