K at Canandaigua, Sept. 11, 1863, aged 42 years. Mustered into the U.S. service same day and place credited to the town of Milo. Transferred to Co. E July 1, 1864; Co. A, Nov. 18; Co. B, 147th Inf., Jan. 28, 1865. Discharged for disability, hernia, June 3, 1865, at Campbell Hospital, Washington, D.C. Substitute for Miles W. Raplee, of Milo, drafted July 31, 1863. END From Mary Canzler : BEGIN Barney won election as constable in the town of Starkey in 1857. He ran on the Black Republican ticket. Barney also served in the Civil War. He enlisted as a private in Company A, 76th Infantry Regiment of New York. He transferred into Company B, 147th Infantry Regiment of New York on 28 January 1865. Shortly after transferring to the 147th, he was wounded and hospitalized at Campbells Hospital in Washington, DC, but in April of 1865, it was reported that he was improving. Barney was discharged from the 147th on 3 June 1865 at Washington, DC. Penn Yan Democrat: 7 June 1912 Deaths - Kishpaugh - In Bennettsburg, May 20, 1912, Barney Kishpaugh, aged 90 years. He spent the greater part of his life at Starkey, N.Y. On September 11, 1863, he enlisted and served until the close of the war as a private in Capt. E. Swann's Co. K, 76th regiment New York Volunteers. This regiment, under command of Col. Cook, served in the third brigade, Third division, Fifth corps, and participated in 32 battles, the principal ones, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, North Ann, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Weldon, Poplar Grove Church, Hatcher's Run. Mr. Kishpaugh spent some time in Campbell's Hospital, from where he was honorably discharged. His last illness was of only 24 hours' duration. Barney and his wife, Juliette nee Eaton are buried in Hillside Cemetery, Millard St. (Rt 14 A) in Dundee, Yates Cty, New York.
