From the Montrose Democrat, Montrose, Pennsylvania dated June 30, 1882: BEGIN -- One of the saddest accidents that it was ever our duty to chronicle, occurred near Auburn 4 Corners last Saturday, and resulted in the death of that genial, whole-souled, and well-known farmer, Mr. Isaac G. Lake, of Bridgewater township. Mr. L. was at Auburn buying cattle, and had also exchanged his driving horse for another, with which, and a few head of cattle, he had started for home. He had not gone far, when he was noticed, by men working in a field some distance away, to stop. They thought nothing of this, however, at first, but after half an hour or so, began to think there might be something wrong, and went to offer their assistance, if any should be needed. Upon reaching the spot, they were horrified to find Mr. Lake lying on the ground, dead, just ahead of the front axle of his buggy, with the horse sitting squarely on his body. Just how the accident occurred, and how Mr. Lake came to be on the ground, is not known, but the lines had in some way became entangled in the wheels and drawn the horse backwards into a sitting posture. The remains were brought to his home Saturday afternoon, the funeral occuring [sic] Tuesday at 8 o'clock, attended by a large concourse of people. Rev. T. Harroun conducted the services. The deceased leaves a wife, two sons, and two daughters, to mourn his untimely death. He was about fifty years of age. LAKE IS HONOR GUEST AT BANQUET Only Living Charter Member of Susquehanna Grange is Tendered Reception. The Susquehanna Grange, No. 74, at South Montrose, on Wednesday evening, tendered Mrs. Margaret Lake a dinner in honor of her eighty-eighth birthday, which was attended by nearly 150 Grangers and guests, including thirty-five children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of Mrs. Lake. 'Grandma Lake', as she is affectionately known by her host of friends, is the only living charter member of the Susquehanna Grange, she having joined that organization fifty-one years ago. Mrs. Lake is the oldest of four generations of her family, who are now members of this Grange: Mrs. Lake; her daughter, Mrs. Charles Allen; her grandson, Guy Allen, and her great granddaughter, Miss Margaret Allen. Besides this group of four generations, descendants of Mrs. Lake, there are three other similar groups, all living. Following a sumptuous dinner, a feature of which was a large birthday cake covered with candles, which were lighted by Mrs. Lake, was an unusually interesting and enjoyable program. This program included, among other musical numbers, a particularly appropriate solo by Miss Mattie Sheen, the words of which were written by Miss Sheen and sung to a familar tune. The entire program follows: Song, "America." Prayer - Mrs. J. B. Sheen. Piano duet - Mrs. Mark Lake, Mrs. Worden Allen. Remarks - J. B. Sheen. Solo - Mrs. Paul Blancher.
