The Brands family of Warren County is descended from Jacob Brands, who came from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, about 1775, and settled on a farm two miles from the Delaware River, owned by his brother-in-law, Aaron Feistler. Jacob Brands had one daughter and three sons, namely: David, the father of Jacob D., David, James, John B., Mrs. William Blair, Mrs. D. Silverthorn, and Mrs. D. Brown; Jacob the father of Daniel B., David I., and of three daughters; and James, the father of William, John, David, Jacob, and of Mrs. James Lisk. END From "Pioneer Families of Northwestern New Jersey" by William C. Armstrong in 1979: paraphrasing Jacob D. Brands' wife was Heyltje [Ed Note - Helen? ... on Daniel B. Brands' death certificate his mother is named as Ellenor] Van Auken Van Benschoten [Ed Note - Van Scoten?]. Heyltje is the daughter of Cornelius Van Benschoten and Heyltje Quick (this couple is mentioned in 5.472). Jacob D. Brands is the son of Jacob Brands and Dorothy Feaster [Ed Note - Feistler]. The Brands family emigrated from Germany to Bucks County, Pennsylvania and moved to Warren County, New Jersey in 1775. [Ed Note - Warren County, New Jersey did not exist in 1775, that area would have been part of Sussex County, New Jersey then.] Jacob and Dorothy married on February 12, 1761 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. They moved to Warren County, New Jersey in about 1775 [Ed Note - again, this would have been Sussex County in 1775] and settled on a farm about 2 miles from the Delaware River. Dorothy was born on October 2, 1735 in Endhori, Switzerland, the daughter of John Feaster (originally Pfister) and Rachel Gassman. They emigrated to Bucks County in 1739. Jacob was born on April 8, 1769 and always lived near Blairstown in Sussex County and later Warren County. Jacob's wife was baptized on December 26, 1765 in Walpack Dutch Reformed Church. Cornelius Van Benschoten served in the Revolutionary War. His name appears in William S. Stryker's Register as Cornelius Benscota. un-paraphrasing
