(date unknown) END From the Montrose Democrat, Montrose, Pennsylvania dated March 17, 1863: BEGIN In South Bridgewater, on the 7th inst., David Cool, of Co. D. 50th P.V., in the 19th year of his age. David enlisted at the time his Company was organized, and with his comrades, encountered the perils and hardships of the noted passage to Port Royal on board the Winfield Scott, as well as other dangers incident to a soldier's life. He enjoyed good health up to last July, and was considered a good and brave soldier; then he was taken down with fever, which terminated in quick consumption. He received his discharge and returned home to his brother's house in South Bridgewater ten weeks previous to his death, where he received all the kindness and care necessary to be bestowed on one so very weak and emaciated, until death released him from his sufferings. Cool, of South Montrose, a well-known citizen, passed "over the river" Wednesday morning, May 24th, 1899, aged 75 years, after a protracted illness. He is survived by his wife. His funeral will take place Friday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, at his late home. Cool, who died at his home at South Montrose, May 24, 1899, took place at the South Montrose church, Friday, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. H. B. Benedict read the scripture lesson. Rev. I. N. Shipman, of Binghamton, (a former pastor) preached an impressive sermon, and Rev. Dr. H. H. Dresser, of Binghamton, (also a former pastor) spoke of his remembrances of personal traits and character of the deceased, and his standing all those long years in the community. The pall bearers were six nephews of the deceased, E C Lake, E R Lake, M L Lake, Marshall Lake, Abram Lake, and H. T. Lake. J. E. O'Brien was funeral direction.
