John Prall Bush was the son of Abraham Bush and Sarah Prall. He and Mary Jane
Anderson were married 15 May 1839 in Bound Brook by the Rev. R. Rodgers,
minister of the Bound Brook Presbyterian Church. They had 5 surviving
children: Mary Elizabeth, Aletta W., Charles Carrol, Oscar and Emma.
His obituary states that he was a resident for 56 years of Bound Brook and
a manufacturing hatter by occupation. He was one of the oldest residents
of Bound Brook at his death, and passed away peacefully at 5:30 Tuesday
morning. He had been stricken with paralysis three years previous and
had been very feeble. He was born in Washington Valley on March 29, 1811
and in 1841 he came to Bound Brook to reside. His first business venture
was with a partner, Sylvanus Ayres, Sr. A short time later, he conducted
a hat store and manufacturing business now occupied (1897) by the Ackor
Building. Later he purchased the property now owned by the Mundy Brothers
and erected the building now occupied by them. The manufacturing business
suffered a severe setback in 1871 and from that time until three years
ago (1894) he conducted only the hat retail business. For fifteen years
he was Secretary and Treasurer of the Bound Brook Mutual Fire Assurance
Association. He leaves a widow, Mary Jane Anderson, a native of Bound Brook,
and one son, Charles C. Bush. The funeral was at his home on Thursday by
the Rev. Dally. Burial was in the family plot in Bound Brook Cemetery. [The

Mary Jane Anderson Bush

Mary Jane Anderson was the daughter of Cornelius and Sophia Anderson. Her
obituary states that she was the widow of John Bush, and for 75 of her 85
years a resident of Bound Brook, and that she died at 3:00 in the morning
of the previous day. For the previous three weeks she had been entirely
helpless and dependent upon her son, Charles C. Bush. Funeral services
were to be held at her home on John Street, at 2 pm Saturday, March 11,
1905 with interment in Bound Brook Cemetery. [The Chronicle, Bound Brook,
Friday, March 10, 1905, p. 1.]  Her death record in the New Jersey Archives
states that her parents were Cornelius and Sophia Anderson. Her residence
was Bound Brook, Somerset County. She was 85 years 4 months and 16 days old
at her death. Her parents, Cornelius and Sophia Anderson are both buried
in the old Presbyterian Cemetery next to the Bound Brook Public Library on
Hamilton Street with several of their Bush grandchildren.
