Emily A. Storms the daughter of John and Fanny died in early November 1908. There is a newspaper clipping in one of the Kingston newspapers about her death and brief clippings about the subsequent sale of her farm and disposal of her estate. She was single and never married. She is on early census's with her parents at Ernestown, and with her mother Fanny after her father passed away. "Emily Rachel Storms" who died on August 8, 1911 was actually Emily Rachel nee LLOYD, and she went by Emma. She was married to Albert Nelson Storms (son of Sheldon and Hester) and they both lived at Watertown. I have found no marriage record for them, but I believe they married after they moved to Watertown about 1891. They never had children. Albert died May 28, 1910 at Watertown. Albert and his wife Emma Rachel nee Lloyd are supposedly buried at Violet in Ontario. I don't see their graves at Find a Grave, but there are still so many that are not posted there. Albert and Emma R. are on the 1900 and 1910 census's at Watertown in NYS. There is also a newspaper article about Emma's death in 1911 at Marlbank (Mrs. Emma Storms passed Away At Marlbank) while she was visiting her brother Joseph LLOYD. That newspaper article printed in ERROR that her brother was "Joseph Storms". The death record in 1911 for Emily Rachel says she died at Richmond but the newspaper article says she died at the home of her brother Joseph at Marlbank. Joseph Lloyd was one of the informants for Emma's death in 1911, as was her doctor/Dr. Burrows of Marlbank. The funeral for Mrs. Emma Storms was held from the home of Joseph Lloyd. There is unfortunately no death record that I can find for Emily Storms daughter of John and Fanny in November 1908, and there should be one. If anyone wants other info or copies of the newspaper clippings let me know and please write to me directly. I have been working on Storms families for a month now. More corrections and clarifications to follow. Thx from Nora SEVERAL people have the wrong person posted as "Emily" daughter of John Storms and Fannie Gooseberry. Emily A. Nora NoraMcL (NoraMcL) Three Elizabeth "Davey"'s in Ontario, Canada https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.canada.ontario.lennoxaddington/2342 Fri, 05 Jan 2024 04:15:28 GMT I am working with a gal who is a direct desc. of Elizabeth Davy born about 1815 who was married first to Joseph Gonyou and then to Daniel Somers. Elizabeth is with second husband Daniel Somers on the 1851 census @ Thurlow in Hastings County, Ont. with some of Daniel's children from HIS first marriage, Elizabeth's Gonyou children and their first daughter together Mary Somers age 3 years. I have been working on Gonyou info for seven years and have just spent two weeks on this particular family. We have two pages from a published documentation (from a book published about Kent County, Ontario citizens) which state that this Elizabeth had maiden name Davy, and this is also confirmed in marriages and death info of her children. It has been posted that this Elizabeth was the wife of Ezekiel Vankoughnet of Clarendon, Ontario as well. It is also posted that Joseph See's wife Eliza was the same person as daughter of George Davy and Anna Vermilyea. What we are dealing with here, then, is some confusion/mistaken identity, and with THREE different women. This happens a lot in genealogy when we have no early records to help us out and we have a common name, i.e.) Elizabeth Davy. I honestly believe that the Elizabeth Davy who was the daughter of George Davy and Anna Vermilyea was NOT married to Joseph See at all, and she was always only known as Elizabeth, not Elizabeth Ann, and that the woman who was married to Joseph See was Eliza Ann Davy, daughter of Henry Davy UEL and his wife Mary (maiden name not known)....at least this is the info in the Loyalist book that William Reid published. I know that William Reid did make mistakes in his books, but is there any way of confirming what he recorded through other Loyalist documents? Same Henry Davy UEL had a son George Davy- this is the fellow who was married to Anna Vermilyea and had a daughter Elizabeth. Of course what compounds the problem is that all three women were born about the same year: 1815. In 1851 in Sheffield Eliza Ann See is age 36 years. In 1851 Elizabeth Somers nee Davey is age 36 years, and in 1861 Elizabeth wife of Ezekiel Vankoughnet is age 48 years. (I absolutely cannot find her and Ezekiel in 1851, not for lack of trying. They should be in Storrington.) I have recorded into my files a dob for Eliza Ann wife of Joseph See as October 20, 1815 and would like to know the source for this date. Plus I have a date of death for her as October 22, 1880 and need a source, I will look online as well and see if it is there. (No, cannot find that date of death for an Eliza or Elizabeth See, maybe it comes from family records or from a tombstone?) Does anyone know where she and Joseph are buried? I have them on the 1881 census in Kennebec and that is the last place I find them. In 1851 they are in Sheffield, L & A County. I don't know where they are in 1861; in 1871 Joseph was in Olden and I don't have that census info. Linda Corupe states in her books that Eliza Ann wife of Joseph See was nee Davy and was the daughter of Henry Davy (UEL) and his wife Mary. This is the same info that I found in Reid's Loyalists of Ontario book, and probably what Linda used too. I received info a few days ago regarding the possibility of Elizabeth Davy Gonyou Somers being the daughter of George Davy and Anna Vermilyea. It is not always a confirmation but it was pointed out to me that some of the names of George Davy's children were same names that Elizabeth Gonyou Somers named her children: Anna, Wesley, George, Mary, Elizabeth, Catherine.....(fairly common names back then) and once I started checking into the possibility of Elizabeth being the daughter of George and Ann, I went looking for info about them, and stumbled on them living in Thurlow, Hastings County, in 1851. This is just about the clincher for me, that Elizabeth Davy Gonyou Somers is their daughter, although we still have no documentation. It is this proximity which is a big clue for me. I knew for the past several years that the "more than one Elizabeth Davy" problem existed, so decided again to try to sort out who was who. We do not have an exact date of death for Elizabeth Davy Gonyou Somers, do not know where she died, or where she is buried. We only have year of her death as 1886 as was published in that John Gonyou article (Kent County, Ontario)- and because I cannot find a death reg. for her in Ontario, we now think she may have died in Manitoba or Sask. as some of her family moved westward, OR in Michigan where some of her children went. A death record of some kind for her might tell us who her parents were. We will keep hunting for it. And as for Elizabeth wife of Ezekiel Vankoughnet- I went through all the children's records and as many deaths as I could find, hoping something would give me this Elizabeth's maiden name. I have not found anything yet and have no idea yet why she is recorded with surname Davy. Some people think she was the daughter of Michael Davy and Elizabeth Friermouth but I honestly believe this is her in following marriage: Taken from "Frontenac County (Ontario) Marriages 1869-1875, Volume One" as transcribed and indexed by Linda Corupe, U.E., her Page 1, entry # 4: Philips, Eli, widower, age 58, living at Barrie Township, born at Fredericksburgh, son of Edward Philips, and Rachel, married at Clarendon on September 6, 1869 Vankoughnet, Elizabeth, age 54 a widow, living at Clarendon, born at Richmond, daughter of Oren Dibble and Tamar Dibble. What caught my attention here is that this Elizabeth's mother was named Tamar, and Ezekiel W. Vankoughnet and his wife Elizabeth have a daughter Tamar Vankoughnet. ??? I do not have a date of death for Ezekiel Vankoughnet, but feel strongly this is Elizabeth his widow. I have found Eli Phillips in only one place so far, the 1871 census for Barrie, Ont.; he is age 60, born Ont., Meth. W., German, a farmer and is alone- so did Elizabeth Dibble Vankoughnet die by 1871? I can't find any death info for her either. I do have Oren Dibble in my files with two wives, a Mary and Catherine Diamond. I know nothing about him to say if he was married three times, or if the names Tamar and Mary were the same, or ....???? Richard Dilts posts online that Elizabeth wife of Ezekiel Vankoughnet died in 1915 but I have not found her under this year either. Does anyone know what the source is for this year for Elizabeth's death? I cannot find either of them in 1871 either- Caroline and Mary are in 1871 Clarendon, but no mother or father. I wonder if Elizabeth married someone else after she married Eli Phillips and they just split up. If she did live to year 1915, she has to be somewhere.... Anyway, in a nutshell, this is how I see it: Eliza Ann wife of Joseph Miles See was Eliza Davy daughter of Henry Davy UEL and his wife Mary Elizabeth Davy wife of Joseph Gonyou and Daniel Somers was daughter of George Davy and Anna Vermilyea Elizabeth wife of Ezekiel Vankoughnet was Elizabeth Dibble, daughter of Oren Dibble (of North Fredericksburgh) There WAS an Elizabeth Davy daughter of Michael Davy and Elizabeth Friermouth; she was also born about 1815- Reid has her married to a man named William Bruce, but I have hunted high and low for this couple and can't find anyone who matches them. I suspect his surname was NOT Bruce, but possible Boyce (?) And just to make things even more confusing, (but I have this part figured out now)....Henry Davy UEL did have a daughter Elizabeth Davy AND a daughter Eliza Ann Davy (the latter married to Joseph See). His daughter Elizabeth was married to James Laughlin of Ernestown (sometimes recorded as McLaughlin) 1785-1850; Elizabeth was born 1791 and died young in 1824. James then re-married to Elizabeth's first cousin Mary Davy (1799-1867), the daughter of Michael Davy and Elizabeth Friermouth (Henry Davy and this Michael were brothers, both sons of Peter Davy & Maria Saltsman). I know this is not easy to figure out, but it is my best guess about who goes where. And just because some of the kids' names are the same, and just because both Elizabeth Davy Gonyou Somers and George and Anna Davy were all in Thurlow at the same time in 1851, does not exclusively mean that Elizabeth WAS the daughter of George and Anna. I believe with my whole heart and soul that she WAS, but we still need to prove it. At the very least, I feel strongly that Eliza Ann the wife of Joseph See was not the daughter of George and Anna, and neither was Elizabeth the wife of Ezekiel Vankoughnet. I believe that I have found four marriages for him, total, although he supposedly had a daughter born prior to the first marriage. She is a mystery as well. Names of his parents are inconsistent, as are his ages given on various documents. Various records have him born in Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. I will write out what I have found for him and post here, but first wanted to ask if anyone has detailed information for him that I may not have? The only two census's I can find him on are 1921 and 1931 after he married Rachel. They had a son named Stuart or Stewart Cousins born in 1921, and a daughter Freda Cousins born 1926. Freda was twice married and had two sons. I do have all the marriage info for Thomas, just wondering if anyone knows more about him. I already have his newspaper obit, his death record. The original error lies with a man named David G., Anderson, now deceased, who published an article in Glengarry News in 1994 about the family of David and Charlotte and in error said that David's son was John Thompson who married Isabel. David Anderson made other mistakes in that article about David and Charlotte's family. What is really appalling is that I can see online that some people have ALTERED the original list of names of David and Charlotte's children that came straight out of David's own family bible- they have changed the name “William” son of David and Charlotte, to “William John”. John Thompson in Lennox and Addington County who was married to Isabel Kirkpatrick was never ever "William John", and conversely William son of David and Charlotte was never ever "William John". It is more than alarming the lengths that people will go to, to make something "fit". Anyone who is a John and Isabel descendent should be excited to learn they are UEL descendants and should get working on that amazing part of their ancestry! If you are a Thompson descendant in this lineage and have done DNA testing, and don't understand it, please consult with an expert who knows how to interpret the matches. William and Ruth had 10 children, Elsie Pearl, Margaret Jane, George Arthur, Agnes, Albert Allen, Samantha, Almina, William Flint, Archibald, and Cynthia. They lived in Moira, Hastings County Ontario. I noticed that a good number of people have attached Ruth's parents as Daniel Reid (1790–1852) and Chesyea Jane (Keziah) Thompson (1793–1871). While Daniel and Keziah did have a daughter Ruth Reid born November 23, 1828 and died August 31, 1901 in Michigan. This Ruth Reid is NOT William Thompsons wife. She married Christopher Parks (1822-1883) around 1845. They had 7 children. I have pulled her death certificate and it clearly states her parent as Daniel Reid and Keziah Thompson. The Ruth Reid I am looking for was born 1816 and died on April 26, 1893 in Thurlow Township Hastings County Ontario. I came across something interesting in her daughter Almina Thompson Vanderwaters death certificate it stated her mothers place of birth as the United States. Ruths other children have Canada or Ontario. I know memories can be off during the loss of a loved one, but it was curious so I have been looking at records in Lennox and Addington and UEL records to see if her family is here. I rather think perhaps Ruths family is from the US, and that she was born here. Any direction or assistance anyone could provide would be gratefully appreciated. She remains one of the few mysteries out of our Thompson family history 1728-current. I would like to solve that mystery before publishing the family history. There were at least six that I have not been able to find past certain census dates, and not their death dates, or places of burial. As of today, I have new information for two of those six. Their eldest son Marshall Merritt Hawley was born October 1868 at Barrie Township, L & A County, Ontario- he was married twice, first to Emma Etta Stalker 1870-1908, with whom he had nine children. After she died, he re-married in 1909 to Ella Lavinia Babcock, with whom he also had nine children. Ella Lavinia and Marshall must have separated as she moved to New Jersey and re-married prior to 1930. I had Marshall on the 1930 census living in Steuben County, NYS (the last location I had for him) but today found him in 1950 living with his married daughter Cora P. Hawley/Mrs. Leroy Miller at Buffalo, Erie County, NYS. He was 84 years old. Found a death record for him of November 8, 1950 at age (85) years. He would have actually been 82 years old if born in 1868. In same family youngest son was George Washington Hawley, born March 1, 1886 in L & A County, Ontario, I believe at Kaladar. His mother Leah Elizabeth died 9 days later on March 10, 1886, complications from childbirth. I could never find what happened to George W. but someone has posted that he was adopted as a baby by George Antoni and Isabelle Vanalstine who were living in Barrie Township and who must have known Peter P. Hawley and his wife. George and Isabelle moved to Renfrew County- and adopted four other children- two of whom also have the Hawley surname, but I do not know whose children they were. George W. died October 17, 1918 in Renfrew County at age 32 years. He was married to Margaret Dow, but I cannot find any children for them. The other two Hawley children adopted by the Antoni's were Percy Findlay Hawley born 1894 and Henrietta Hawley born 1898. Does anyone know whose children they may have been? Isaac Boomhower was indicted for the murder of James Davis in 1851; James was found dead in Lennox and Addington County in May 1851. Isaac was found not guilty. I have just received a several pages long document where the family members and witnesses testified in the trial of Isaac Boomhower. The young man who was found dead was James Davis, son of William Rensselaer Davis of Richmond in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario and his first wife Sarah Parks. Jane Davis, wife of Isaac Boomhower who later changed their surname to Howard, was a daughter of William Rensselaer Davis, sister to the deceased James. The document has been a godsend- sad as it is, because it briefly confirms some of the Davis-Boomhower-Fralick family relationships. This Davis family is a part of my own extended Davis family of Lennox and Addington County. It has been difficult for me to put the pieces together and I am very sure I do not yet have all of the family members and their spouses, children etc. Thus far I have: James Davis born about 1781 possibly in Quebec en route from the USA; his wife Esther whose surname I don't know...she was born about 1783. They were alive in 1851 and living in Richmond, L & A County with a grand-daughter Nancy Davis, the daughter of William Rensselaer Davis. Six children that I believe belong to same James and Esther: Mary Davis born 1804 in NYS, died 1899 at Napanee, married to Stephen Dodson Fox of New York State (my ancestors); have names of ten children for them William Rensselaer Davis born abt. May 1806, died Feb. 14, 1879 at Richmond, L & A County, Ontario, Canada, married twice- first wife was Sarah Parks who died in 1848; second wife was Mary Osborne; eight children with Sarah, five more with Mary. The James Davis who was murdered in May 1851 was a son of William R. and first wife Sarah. Joseph J. Davis 1808-1883, married to Mary Windover; lived and died at Richmond in Lennox and Addington County, Ont., Canada; three known children Eliza Davis born about 1809-1813, married Daniel Masters, six children, I have no dod for her Stephen Davis born 1822, died 1903, married to Susannah Sedore, 15 children James Davis born about 1824, died 1878; married Margaret Palmateer, six children with her; she died between 1858 and 1869, James re-married to Samantha Ann York in October 1869 whose first husband was George Mowers. I realize there is a huge gap between Eliza and Stephen, so Stephen and James the younger may belong to someone else. Back to family of William Rensselaer Davis of Richmond, Ontario- the court document has testimonies by various family members and neighbors about what happened when James Davis was killed: Leonard Davis is mentioned as being married to the accused's sister, and I see from online info she was Elizabeth Boomhower/Howard born in 1827 in Ontario, Canada, died 1896 at Mecosta, Michigan. Leonard was born 1825 in New York and I think he may be another son of James and Esther- if he is not, he is certainly somehow related to these Davis families. William Fralick is mentioned as being married to one of the deceased's sisters- (the deceased being James Davis) and I have found her to be Sarah Davis born about 1834, still alive in 1910 in Michigan, USA. Her husband William Fralick was born about 1827 at Richmond, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, the son of Peter Smith Fralick and his wife Elizabeth Johnson. Stephen Davis is mentioned in the document, I believe he was the deceased's uncle. Rensselaer Davis, father of deceased James, and Jane and Sarah, also mentioned an unmarried daughter Nancy, who had been living at Isaac Boomhower's house. In 1851 Nancy was listed on the 1851 census (re-created by Russ Waller) at Richmond in home of her grandparents James and Esther Davis. Nancy later married Henry J. Graham and had at least seven children. She died April 30, 1919 at Richmond in Lennox County, Ontario. Rensselaer Davis also testified that the "accused" was married to the deceased's sister, and that William Fralick was married to another sister. He said the "accused" had been married seven years and had four children. This is already a long message and I will post another follow-up regarding all the children of William Rensselaer Davis and who they married. Also, are there any local newspapers that may have covered the area with obituaries that are online? Was Napanee the nearest city with a newspaper? She was born August 29, 1895 in Watertown, Wisconsin, and died April 13, 1985 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Notes for CORLINE JACKSON: Nickname: Jack His marriage certificate and his WWI military papers list his birthdate as 1882 and yet in his picture from 1917 (on my website), he does not look like he is 35 years old. In one record he states that he was born in St. Regis, NY and in another record he states that he was born in Watertown, NY. Since I have found a Corline Jackson in the 1900 census of Watertown, NY, this is the one that I am pursuing and for two reasons at this time: (1) Corline is a very unusual name and (2) this Corline's mother's maiden name is Evans. My Corline named his second son Deane Evans Jackson. Also noted that at this time I have nothing in my records to indicate a middle name or initial for my Corline. More About CORLINE JACKSON: Burial: Lincoln Memorial Park, Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon I am looking for further information, descendants, and/or confirmation of the following descendant tree & genealogy report. I am especially interested in Rufus & Margaret's son, Corline, who shares the same name as my grandfather. I have not been able to establish a link between Corline and his parents. This is closest that I have ever come. Keep in mind that the following information might not be entirely correct. Rufus & Margaret were born in Canada; Corline was born in NY. The various people who have emailed me have basically all insisted that the Wagars, Millers, Huffmans, Canniffs were Protestants...so, anyone have any idea why they would suddenly and apparently without reason consider themselves Israelites? What were the instructions on the 1881 census regarding religion, were they to fill it in according to what they practiced? their mother's religion? father's? Or is it just the German Protestant sense of humour to lie on census forms? On the 1921 census for John Hunter I have him on Hunter St in Hamilton Ont. His mother appears as Mary Alida Hunter, born Ontario and speaks or family is Dutch. When I start to trace her back I find her as a daughter of Belyat A Conger and Priscilla Dafoe Conger. 1881 census shows Alida who I assume is Mary age 19. But it states the family is German and it does show Sarah age 18. Then I checked Familysearch.org which I know is user submitted info and it can be wrong. I found 1871 census with Mary Conger age 11, sisters Emily 17 and Sarah 8 but no parents were listed and also German. The info is only printed out, not the actual census. Then I found Belyet and Priscilla listed with 6 children but no 9 year old Mary or Sarah. I can not get into the actual census for 1871 and want to know if there are two families in the area or only one with mistakes. I have the info from the one census but want to find out who the parents are that only lists the 3 girls or why the 3 girls were listed separately with no parents. But like I said on 1881 Mary (Alida) and Sarah do pop up again with the correct approx ages along with Abba age 14 who isn't on anything until this 1881 census. During all of this I can not find anything that states Mary Alida is Dutch or from a Dutch family, only German. The 1871 lists Belyet and wife Precilla, with 6 children starting with Peter 29 and down to a 3M old infant which I can't tell if this is another child or grandchild. So are there 2 different families , one with the 3 girls but no parents listed on LDS and then the family with 6 children or is it possible these 3 girls are visitors at someone else's house that night but belong to the family of 6 listed under Belyet and Pricilla Conger. Here's a list of the early Sweets of the area that I know of - if any of them are your ancestors or you've come any more information about them or you know of a Sweet I missed, please let me know! Griffin and Dysart families on Amherst Island https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.canada.ontario.lennoxaddington/2667 Sat, 25 Nov 2017 11:22:30 GMT I came upon a post dated 24 Jan 2002 by Rachel Dysart (rachel.dysart@ntlworld.com) on Rootsweb archives regarding John Mitchell Dysart, and hope that she, or others, are on this board so we can compare notes. William Hewitt Griffin, married Anna (or Annie) Dysart, sister of John Mitchell Dysart, on 17 Dec 1846 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. He died in Lennox and Addington County, Ontario on 7 Dec 1866 and is buried in the Pentland cemetery there. There is a grave of Annie Griffin, died 4 Feb 1853 in the same cemetery, whom I presume to be Anna Dysart, wife of William Hewitt Griffin. The 1860 Census of Canada records William H Griffin and wife Julia living on Amherst Island. Rachel Dysart had stated that Anna's sister Julia had reportedly married a Griffin, so perhaps this is her and she married her sister's husband. I have not yet found a record of any remarriage of William Hewitt Griffin. I am interested in the Dysart and Griffin families as John Mitchell Dysart's daughter, Anna Mary Dysart, married my 3x great uncle, Terence John O'Regan, emigrated to the USA and lived and died in New Orleans, Louisiana. She died 23 Apr 1871. Other children of John Mitchell Dysart also emigrated to the USA. Mitchell H.G. Dysart (abt 1842-1868) also died in New Orleans on 17 Feb 1868. There is a death notice in the Belfast newspaper for the death of John Dysart, son of John Mitchell Dysart in New Orleans on 9 Aug 1864, however he appears to be living in the 1880 US Census in Mississippi, aged 37, with wife Mollie, three children (Edith (8), Erle (6) and unnamed (8mos)), a sister Helen Dysart (age 38) and niece Alice Regan (Alice Terencia O'Regan, daughter of Anna Mary Dysart and Terence John O'Regan). I suspect that the newspaper was mistaken and it was John Mitchell Dysart who died in 1864, rather than his son John. I have more information about other children of John Mitchell Dysart living in the US if anyone is interested. tom I came upon a post dated 24 Jan 2002 by Rachel Dysart (rachel.dysart@ntlworld.com) on Rootsweb archives regarding John Mitchell Dysart, and hope that she, or others, are on this board so we can compare notes. Douglas Library Notes... Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario The Parrot Papers May 1957 The Douglas Library has acquired an interesting group of papers relating to the United Empire Loyalist family of Parrot, early settlers in the Bay of Quinte district. The papers comprise: (a) Some forty legal documents 1769-1881 - Crown grants of land, deeds of conveyance, land leases, bonds, articles of agreement, affidavits, etc., relating to the Parrot family, their neighbours and relatives. Names and signatures on these documents include some of the most prominent adminstrators and early settlers of Upper Canada. (b) Correspondence: ten letters to James Parrot, 1798-1816, mostly dealing with business matter; a letter to John Parrot Jr. in 1830, and an interesting letter dated Washington, California, 18 June 1856, from Miles Simmons to his cousin, George Parrot, dealing with conditions of work in the California gold fields. (c) Business papers: James Parrot - statements of account etc, 1791-1821, 58 pieces; John Parrot Sr. 8 items, John Parrot Jr. 16 items. (d) Miscellaneous items, including a "Sunday School Library Record, ...John Parrot Secretary and Librarian"' 1853-56, and four early but undated receipes: "A Substitute for apple pie", "A receipt for making honey", "A cure for scrofula" and "Cure for bite of mad dog". Among the early documents is "An estimate of losses sustained by James Parrot, Loyalist, late from the province of New York, County of Albany and District of Cambridge, and at present in Canada." Dated 12 November 1783, it iteizes losses ammounting to £765.12.6. James Parrot joined Jessup's Rangers at Crown Point in 1776, served throughout the war as Lieutenant, and as a U.E.L., with his brother John, received Crown grants in Ernestown and Fredericksburgh. A land speculator, successful farmer and prominent Methodist, James Parrot also served as Lieutenant Colonel in the local militia during the War of 1812. Among his papers is a hand-written document by Joseph Jewell, Presiding Elder of the Methodist Societies in Upper Canada, dated 26 March 1802, appointing "James Parrot, Esq, Robert Clerk, Esq, Jacob Miller, John Lake, George Miller, James Lake and Matthew Clerk to be Trustees to the Methodist Meeting House now standing on Lot No. 27, first Concession in Ernestown; and I do hereby authorize them to perform all the duties of faithful Trustees, either to forward subscriptions and raise money and finish the House fit for use, or sell it and pay the debts, according to the Methodist Discipline." This was the second Methodist church to be built in Upper Canada, having been begun shortly after the Hay Bay church in 1792. After being used for several years in an unfinished state, it was taken down, moved to the 4th Concession and rebuilt near Odessa. Dated 12 November 1783, it iteizes losses ammounting to £765.12.6. After being used for several years in an unfinished state, it was taken down, moved to the 4th Concession and rebuilt near Odessa. bensonrift1 (bensonrift1) Benjamin Clark https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.canada.ontario.lennoxaddington/2594 Mon, 12 Jun 2017 05:36:26 GMT I am trying to get more information about Benjamin Clark born circa 1811. He was married to Clarinda (Clarenda) Henderson. He lived in Ernestown but later in life moved to Stanhope Twp, in Algonquin Highlands. (near Haliburton) There is another Benjamin Clark born circa 1792 from the US and our Benjamin states he was born in the US as well. Does anyone have access to Wesleyan Methodist registers to find a date for the marriage of the above Benjamin to Clarinda? Also, a birth record for their daughter Amey Ezilda Clark (the Amey I think is a connection to the Amey family) Regards, Sandra I am trying to get more information about Benjamin Clark born circa 1811. Mary Loyalist Sniders of Ernestown Township https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.canada.ontario.lennoxaddington/2671 Fri, 19 May 2017 18:25:57 GMT I am a descendent of Johannes Jost Schneider (1706-1788). His children and grandchildren were Loyalists from New York State who arrived in Ernestown Township about 1784. I have looked at the Upper Canada Land Petitions which have helped me to make family connections. I have also looked at a number of family trees that do not always agree with each other. This family married into a number of families in the township. I would be interested in sharing information with anyone else with an interest in this family. Most of my research has been limited up to 1852. I am a descendent of Johannes Jost Schneider (1706-1788).
