I have been in touch with Annette but she didn’t know anything about my James either. William was not James’s firstborn child. He was his first born son, as far I know right now. James had a daughter Mary Polly Lake 1805-1891 born in Albany New York married James Perry 1802-1874. I have 5 dna matches linked to three of her children. William was born 1815-1906. James was married three times. First to an Elizabeth and I no other information on her. Second wife was Nancy Jane Kerr born in Jordon, Ontario. I’m assuming that Mary Polly and William are children of his second wife Nancy, although William could be his third wife’s child. My other dna matches are linked to his sons James Lake 1821-1897, John Lake 1825-1905 and Isaac, my 3x Great Grandfather. I only know that James Lake was in Norwich, Ontario, as that’s where Isaac was born, and Brantford, Ontario. His third wife Jane Elizabeth Stover’s family settled in Norwich. Her Uncle Frederick Stover lived in Norwich and helped bring escaping slaves from the USA. I know that other Lake males married into the Stover family so I know there’s a link between the two families that way. You have given me some good information about the two Williams you mentioned so I will look into that. Also when you mention Connecticut Ancestry says that my maternal line belongs to the Common community of Early Connecticut and New York Settlers and I have dna matches with people who have Lakes from Hunterdon New Jersey. Since I put James, where I did in my tree, I have been able to place a lot of my Lake dna matches into the tree where they belong, although I know he’s not in the right spot, yet.
