The earliest Lake that I have is a GEORGE LAKE, b. ? who came from Bideford, Devon, England to Placentia Bay, Newfoundland c1743. In 1763 he relocated to the newly growing English settlement of Fortune, Newfoundland. He married an Ann ? The line goes from this George to his son George Lake, b. ?; John Lake, b. c1752; James Lake, b. 1797; John Gallop Lake, b. 1823; Heber Lake, b. 1918; myself, Darlene Cheryl Lake, b. 1946. These families settled in various parts of Nfld., as well as Nova Scotia, and around 1926 my grandfather and family came to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. As you probably already know, there were many other Lake families that came from England and settled in the New Jersey and New York areas, before, during and after the Revolutionary War, eg. Nicholas Lake b. 1700, James Lake UEL, b. 1760. After the war, this James was granted land in Ernestown, in the present day Lennox & Addington Counties area of Upper Canada (now Ontario). So far, I haven't been able to connect these lakes to mine. Darlene Ruch U.E.L.
