From: kchallbo at compusmart.ab.ca (Trudy Challborn) Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2001 09:19:15 -0700 Subject: George Lake Can any one help me track down a GEORGE LAKE. He married ADA MARY ANN AMELIA WELTON from St. Paul,DEPTFORD, KENT ENGLAND. I think his family is from there also but have no real evidence of this. Could someone please check the 1881 census for that area as Ada was found there being 7 years old. George and Ada had at least one of their three children in GOSPORT, ALVERSTOKE, HAMPSHIRE. His name is ROBERT GEORGE WELTON LAKE born Feb 11, 1891. The LAKE'S address at this time was 11 Moncton Terrace Haslar Road, USD. I do not know what "USD" is. George Lake was a Corporal in the Royal Engineers at this point then ended up as shop keeper later. I think the marriage of George and Ada would be abt 1888 and one daughter born before Robert. Another girl was born after Robert. Their names are RACHEL AMELIA and DOLLY. We are not sure if Dolly is a nickname, but it was the name she was called. Any help would be much appreciated. The 'USD' stands for 'Urban Sanitation District' as opposed to 'Rural Sanitation District' and was one of the lower divisions of local government in England. The later may have been known by other names depending on local conditions. Frank
