From: bogus@does.not.exist.com () Date: Fri, 03 Apr 2009 02:48:20 -0000 Subject: No subject My name is David E. Lake b 1935 England, living in Hamilton New Zealand My earliest known Lake ancestor is Simon Ward Lake 1819-1895, a tailor by profession who lived most of his life in Bideford Devon UK and occasionally along a 25 km stretch of the river Torridge from St Giles-in-the-Wood to Appledore. Married Eliza Tout in St Giles. They had at least 9 children : Kezia Tout 1839-1902; Edward b 1843 ; Simon Hooper b 1845;Thomas b 1847; Elizabeth b 1848 ; Edmund 1850-1935 (my grandfather); Thomas James b 1851; Sidney 1857-1941 and Lucy E. L. 1860-1883. Thomas James Lake emigrated to Flint Michigan about 1868 and possibly had one son called Simon. Two of his aunts, possibly his father's sisters were living in the same area in the latter half of the 19th century. Elizabeth married a Bendale and Mary married a Mead, but not known whether they married in the US or England. A Mary Lake married a Wilson Mead in Genesee County, Michigan 3 Dec 1854. My grandfather Edmund married Ellen Bowden 1854-1915 in Bideford. There were 14 children, one of whom ( Arthur 1885-1965) emigrated to the US about 1905, possibly worked for the electric company GEC in New York. He died in the Bronx on 11 July 1965. He had a son Arthur C and a grandson known as Sonny who may live in Texas. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who can provide information particularly related to that part of the family, which emigrated to the US
