Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2007 12:29:49 -0800 (PST) From: Lynn McFadden This is the info I have on Cornelius Garrison. The following is from my gggf's, Elias Howe Robbins Sr., obit; Cornelius Garrison, Mr. Robbins' grandfather on the maternal side, was a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was a native of Alsace and came to this country in 1776 as a French soldier. After the revolution he came to Hanover and settled. Here he met and married Miss Mary Snover and they made their home on the back road near Sugar Notch. In 1825 he was killed by being thrown from his wagon in a runaway. Cornelius Garrison married Mary Snover of Hanover; their children were: Nancy, Jacob, Rachel, Elizabeth, John, James, Mary. There are also some references to him in the History of Hanover Township. I'm mad at myself for not entering the a site for this information on my Ancestry Family Tree. I believe I found it in one of the books written on early Luzerne county, will have to go back and verify. Hope this helps! Do you know where and when she was born? According to "History of Hanover Township" Cornelius and Mary Garrison were married around 1782. I have her born about 1763, and death as 18 Feb 1815. Cornelius died 25 Apr 1825 in PA. Their children were (according to "History"): Elizabeth - 1782-1827; married John Saum, John - born in Hanover about 1784; died in Dorrance in 1865; married Catherine (Kate) Mack, Mary - married John Robins, Rachel - married William Stapleton, Nancy - ?, Jacob - born in Hanover; married Rachel Rimer; moved to the West in 1842, James - married Mary Wiggins I believe all children were born in Hanover Township and that Cornelius & Mary lived there until their deaths. I have not done any further research on Garrison's. I have been told that if we can prove service of Cornelius Garrison in Revolutionary War it qualifies his decendants for membership in DAR and SAR. Do you have any information on father of Mary Snover or John Robins of NJ? His grandfather was Cornelius Garrison, a French > soldier who fought in the American Revolution - does that qualify for > DAR status? I'm curious about a possible GARRISON/ROBINS connection. I have a James GARRISON (1767-1825) marrying Dinah ROBINS (1772-1857) in about 1790 in NJ, probably Hunterdon Co. I don't know the parents of James GARRISON. The parents of Dinah ROBINS are Isaac ROBINS (c1735-1783) and possibly Susannah ------. He isn't listed. That only means no one has claimed him for membership. You will need really good proof of his service. You may have that already. Then you have to prove your line. If you need any help, I would be happy to help you. I was a Registrar for five years before we moved recently to Alabama.
