He enlisted at Fort Bridger, Utah Territory in November of 1864; deserted in October 1865. We have not been successful in locating him anywhere after this. What we know: - James Smith Garrison was born in 1842 in Washington Co., Indiana, son of William & Mary (Johnston?) Garrison. - Garrison family was living in Ray Co., Missouri by 1855. - Married to Anna T. Roberts in Dec 1863, Clay Co., Missouri. - Arrested on charges of desertion (2nd Missouri Cavalry, Company 'G') and bushwhacking in Kansas City, Missouri; a military inquiry held in June 1864. - Death certificate of daughter, Elizabeth Garrison Williamson ( Illinois, 1939 ) ID's him as "Smith Garrison," birthplace "unknown;" mother's name & birthplace as "unknown."
