Here's my Lake ancestor:  Henry LAKE (1739-1804) m. Rhoda JEWETT (?-1831).
They lived in Dorchester Co., MD.  Anyone have any information on MD Lakes?

Marshall & Carolyn   There were at least two groups of Lakes in Md prior to
c1700.  The ones in Dorchester Co on the Eastern Shore, and another group (from
which I am descended) in St Marys Co, coming there prior to 1658.  As far as I
have been able to discover, the two groups were not related/associated at that
generational level , i.e. c1650-1700.

I spent three weeks at the Md State archives in Annapolis looking for info on the
St Marys group and of course kept running into the Dorchester group.  Some
individual from Alabama (within the past 20 years) who is descended from the
Dorchester group hired a proffessional genealogist to do a history of the
Dorchester group, and there are several copies at the Archive, however I don't
think that any of the family genealogies are catalogued.  I talked with that
professional,and had him look over my notes and outline.  It was his opinion,
also, that the two groups were not related at that "point in time".  I made no
notes on the Dorchester group, but remember that there was a great deal of info
regarding them (more so than my group in St Marys).  I should think you could get
a great deal of info on the Dorchester group by using the faci.lities of your
local LDS Family History Library.
