1. Connellesville, PA -- G. Fred Robbins Posted by: "Mary Robbins" merobbins336@yahoo.com merobbins336 Date: Tue Sep 7, 2010 9:02 am ((PDT)) I have become a bit curious about a Robbins that I have come about after searching Newspaperarchives.com, though not by any direct relation that I am aware of. Fred Robbins appears countless times in the Connellesville, PA newspapers in early 1900's as theatre manager. Fred's death notice reads like a bio (31 Aug. 1858, The Daily Courier, Connellesville, PA). I thought I would share a few facts (paraphrasing the article), in case this family might be of interest to someone in the group. (G.) Fred Robbins, born 17 Aug 1858, Hagerstown, MD. Died 30 Aug. 1916, Connellesville, PA (I presume). Parents are Ephraim Robbins and Sarah Steinman. Fred's father contracted Typhoid Fever during the Civil War and died in Washington. At the time of his death in 1916, Fred had a Brother Edgar Robbins living in New York. At the age of fifteen, Fred started sailing around the world, lived in Kansas for a time becoming a newspaper editor. Fred met and married his actress wife May Smith in Kansas. He became her manager and they toured around the country for sixteen years. They eventually settled in Connellesville, PA where he managed theaters (around his wife's career), and other related business ventures. No children mentioned in the article. 1a. If interested email me back. Brian Robbins 1b. Re: Connellesville, PA -- G. Fred Robbins Posted by: "Mary Robbins" merobbins336@yahoo.com merobbins336 Date: Wed Sep 8, 2010 12:25 pm ((PDT)) Brian, I also came across a 1971 article of a teenage girl who was collecting memorabilia about songwriter Hughie Cannon. The article mentions Fred Robbins as the third husband of May Cannon, I believe it said. I imagine you have most of the facts about Fred already. By the way, who was Fred's Grandfather ? Have we discussed our connection, aside from both descending from Daniel and Hope? Our families lived relatively close, but a connection is not apparent. There were several Robbinses that moved to the area, brothers I suppose, so me women I have found. Have you been able follow the paper trail back? Years ago, I received a letter telling me that my line traced to a Wm Robins and Mary Evans. That line however, seems to go back to an English immigrant... Thanks Brian, Mary 1c. Re: Connellesville, PA -- G. Fred Robbins Posted by: "BRIAN ROBBINS" hilo80@yahoo.com HILO80 Date: Wed Sep 8, 2010 12:45 pm ((PDT)) Yes, regarding the English line for Wm Robbins and Mary Evans. I dont know if this is true, because until Sarah published her books about the Scottish line of the Robbins', I believe, all the Robbins' lines were thought to be of English origin. There seems to be at least 2 lines of Robbins in the s.w. Pa area. The first one seems to have shown up there abt 1774. Another Land grant and parcels show a Wm Robbins, a John Robbins, and a Daniel Robbins- who supposdly is the father of William, who was awarded the land by Grant; a war grant. IF this John Robbins is a brother to William, who is the son of Daniel, who is from NJ, then it would be therefore these men have roots in Sussex Co, NJ where his war record, as seen in the website dicussions, show he evetually died in Ross Co, Ohio. Hope this helps Brian 1e. Re: Connellesville, PA -- G. Fred Robbins Posted by: "BRIAN ROBBINS" hilo80@yahoo.com HILO80 Date: Thu Sep 9, 2010 6:16 am ((PDT)) Mary, My line of Robbins arrived in Connellsville, Pa in 1807-from Monmouth Co, NJ. My 4th ggfather, Aaron Robbins, arived with his elderly father Ephraim Robbins(d-1817) and his 2 brothers(half brothers??) James and John. All were brickmasons by trade. My Aaron who had first wife- Elvira who had sons John and Stephen to Aaron, died sometime before 1822 when he had then remarried a Lodica Huntley, daughter of Stoddard Huntley. She lived until between 1860-1870. They had several children, one in 1822, Levi Robbins (1822-1881) .He was my 3rd ggfather who had an Albert and He in turn had a Lee Sr and then a Lee Jr and then me! In speaking with several Robbins here in the sw pa area, in Connellsville, I have idenified that the english line of Robbins, descended from Brintnel Robbins of westmoreland Co, Pa. he is well documented. He had a son who had a son who had lived in the Perryoplois , Pa area. He had a William who had descendants that settled simultaneously in Connellsville area. Brian 1f. Re: Connellesville, PA -- G. Edward was born 1836 in Pa. according to the census report. His Father maybe Peter Robbins and Mother Abigail. Thank you for your messages. Shirley Robbins Hawley
