Cuyler Obituary Louis Eugene Cuyler, 80, passed away January 19, 2021 in his winter home of Apache Junction, AZ. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Riverside Cemetery on N. Broadway Street in Union City, with the Rev. Will Dulworth of the Battle Creek Hope Church of the Nazarene officiating. The 3rd Battery Michigan Light Artillery will fire the cannons at the close of the service. Afterward, the family is at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City for greeting, stories and snacks. Louis was born October 17, 1940 in Union City, Michigan to Leo and Ethel (Mason) Cuyler. He graduated from Union City High School in 1959, having lettered in all four sports. He married Sandra Weiderman, which ended in divorce. In 1988 he married Dawn Rolfe and she survives. Louis worked in several places in the area until going to work at Kellogg's of Battle Creek and retiring in 1996 after 30 years. He worked many different jobs at Kellogg's. Some of his favorite stories were about playing Diggum and Tony Junior. He worked for several golf courses and car dealerships after retirement. He loved working on family genealogy. Louis was an active member of the Battle Creek Hope Church of the Nazarene and before that he was active in The Church of God. Over the years he taught Sunday School, served on boards, sang in the choir and was a superintendent. Louis loved history and was a Civil War reenactor for 52 years, belonging to various groups, including the 24th Michigan Infantry, Iron Brigade, SUV, Battery C and the 3rd Battery Michigan Light Artillery. He was a background artist in three Civil War movies, taught a Shazam course at KCC on life in the 1860s and went with a group to England to reenact the Civil War. He often gave tours of the GAR hall in Marshall. Louis portrayed several characters. In the Civil War era, he not only portrayed officers and privates but also a US Senator named "Senator Will E. Spendit" and "Rev. Mason," a circuit rider preacher. He also did a mountain man, a revolution soldier, and his latest was a cowboy "Shorta Cash" in Apache Junction at the Goldfield Ghost town. Louis was an active member of the Union City Society for Historic Preservation. He loved his hometown. He helped with cemetery tours and attended many sporting events and reunions. As someone who loved to travel, Louis had been in 47 states and several countries. He never knew a stranger. He had an easy smile. He loved music, bad jokes, endless Ray Stevens, movies, telling stories, sports and laughter. Most of all he loved God and his family. His children include Lousann (Tony) Clark of Montana, Jeffrey (Zhu Ying) Cuyler of Georgia, Brent Cuyler of Ohio, Brad Cuyler of Alabama, Lavonne (Steve) Pearson of Michigan, Worden (Breanna) Cuyler of Michigan and Nellie Cuyler of Michigan. He has 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ethel Cuyler and his sister, Ethelyn Cuyler Collins. His older brother, Earl Cuyler, passed away on January 4, 2021. His younger brother Marvin (JoAnn) survives in Arizona. Memorials are suggested to Battle Creek Hope Church of the Nazarene, 901 W.
