Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2021 12:45:30 -0600 From: Venita Lake To: Marshall Lake , Leslie Lewis , Fran and Russ Lewis Cc: Bob Lake Subject: Lakes in Missouri On November 3, I  upgraded Richard Ezra Lake III's Y-DNA to the Big-7-700 so I am looking forward to getting results. Actually since I started this message several weeks ago, Rick has been moved from assisted living to qualifying for hospice care, which has prompted a lot of phone calls with hospice staff and providing them with supplies and different clothing. I have checked out a copy of Jack Lake Revare's book, Descendants of Jacques Reverd of France and Daniel Lake of North Carolina (copyright 2002), and have skipped over the many generations of Reverd/ Revares.and gone to Section II, Descendants of Daniel Lake of North Carolina including Allied Families of Eales, Watts, Ferrell and Norhcutt. Luckily I can renew the book as I try to decipher his references. I am trying to figure out his logic and compare it with Marshall's thoughts and my research. If Marshall's research is correct, Rick may not be related to the line of Daniel Lake whose son Jacob married Mary Debow. In any event, his genes say his line came through New York and New Jersey so I need to look at the Daniel who was in Buncombe Co., NC, not Orange Co., NC.  One interesting note related to my husband's lineage is the 1880 US Census, Marion, Missouri, population schedule, Union Township, Enumeration District [ED] 22 ,  p. 9  (penned), p. 422 (stamped), dwelling 59, Richard N. Sharp; digital image, Ancestry.com (http://www.ancestry.com [www.ancestry.com] : 6/18/2012), citing National Archives microfilm publication T9, roll xxx. This census was of a two- family group of 11 people plus one white hired worker named George with no last name. Richard Sharp was the father-in-law of Joseph E. Lake (Ezra, Ballard, Daniel) who was married to Rosa (Belle Sharp) Lake. They had three children, ages 3, 2, and 1. Richard Sharp was widowed with five children, ages 14 through 5.   Revare's book  lists the children of Ballard Lake (son of Daniel) and his three children Eleazer, Ezra, and Elisha who may have also been called Ballard, all good Biblical names. Following Ezra's line, one of his sons was Joseph E. Lake who appears in the above 1880 census. The two-year-old is identified as James Richard Lake, born in 1878. I had done my first research beginning with the most recent generation and the logical assumption that if there was a Richard Ezra Lake III (born in 1941), there should be a junior and a senior. I had met Rick's father before we were married and remember when he died of a heart attack (1915-1960). He was buried in the same cemetery, Highland Park cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas, as his father, Richard the first (4 November 1877, Palmyra, Marion County, Mo. to 27 December 1929 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., Mo.) I hadn't checked for the 1880 census yet when I contacted Blytha Ellis through Ancestry to ask where she found the name "James Richard Lake." Her husband is a descendant of Eleazer Lake, who was one of ten Confederate sympathizers executed in the 1862 Palmyra Massacre. Blytha's husband is descended from Eleazer's daughter Mary. There was a son from his first marriage to Sarah Jane Terrill named John Ballard Lake (1844-1913) who moved to Caddo Co.,Oklahoma   Both the 1870 and 1880 censuses use nicknames rather than given names but it's uncertain whether Richard Sharp provided the names. A lot of the material in this book will need checking! Joseph E Lake's entry credits information from the 1884 Marion Co. Mo. History. In spite of the 1880 census, page 199 says Joseph E. Lake "was married to Rosa Belle WOOD (daughter of Richard SHARP) ...." Actually Rosa Belle's mother was Elizabeth Ellen Wood who married Richard Sharp. I have recorded Elizabeth Wood Sharp died on 14 July 1879, which explains why she did not appear in the 1880 census and left Rosa Belle as the only adult female in a very crowded house. More work is needed as I cull information from my Ancestry and RootsMagic and Family Tree Maker and paper and digital files. Venita Lake 314-727-7378 5851 Waterman Blvd. St. Louis, MO 63112-1515
