I enjoy reading these old publications. They contain quite a lot of good information. I'm looking for more information on Green Robbins father of William Robbins mentioned in the Belvidere Apollo on Dec 16, 1898. I'd like to know if he is the same Green Robbins who d. 1/12/1868 & is buried in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Mt. Pleasant, Hunterdon Co., NJ & is listed as a CW vet in "Our Brothers Gone Before." The National Archives states they have no military or pension record for a Green Robbins. Regiment Name Expanded: 28th Regiment, Alabama Infantry COMPANY: L Rank In: Private Rank In Expanded: Private Rank Out: Private Rank Out Expanded: Private Film Number: M374 roll 38 Dorman Charles & Dorman, I appreciate your help on the various Green Robbins & their families. I don't have a birth date for Green Robbins who died in 1868 & is buried at Mt Pleasant. A guess is he was mostly likely born around 1835-1840 so that appears to eliminate William Green Robbins b. 1863 son of Isaac & Hannah Lott Robbins. Green Robbins is listed as a Union soldier by the compilers of the "Our Brothers Gone before Us. " Possibly the book is in error & Green was a Confederate soldier but it doesn't seem to add up that a Confederate soldier from Alabama would be buried in NJ in 1868. However, anything is possible. The information in the book was supposedly taken from his gravestone. After looking at your postings I'm beginning to think he was known as Green but his first name may not have been Green as noted for William Green Robbins. Thanks so much for all the information. As for your questions; as you know we used many different sources to obtain the information in our books. The physical survey we did of all the cemeteries accounts for better than 75% of the names. In the case of Green Robbins, we found his name in the veterans burial records for Hunterdon County which were located in the basement of the courthouse in Flemington, NJ. We could not find a Union veteran by that name, but there was a Confederate veteran named Green Robbins who served with the 28th Alabama Infantry. We were never able to prove that they were the same man, but we felt we would leave his name in our books until we can prove or disprove that he served in the CW. It's the same for John Robbins in Vineland. When we surveyed Siloam Cemetery in 1994 your John Robbins had a GAR marker on his grave. Unfortunately there were well over 200 men by that name who served both North and South, so finding his service won't be easy. Sorry that I cannot be more definitive, but unfortunately not all records are what we would like them to be. Best Wishes, Bob (MacAvoy) I think I've been going in circles & believe that Green Robbins in Hunterdon Co & John Robbins in Cumberland Co may not have been Civil War soldiers. Sara
