From: "Mary Snyder" Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 21:39:17 -0500 [Glen Gardner, Hunterdon Co, NJ] The deed to my house states "Being the some premises that John W. Lake conveyed to Elizabeth Eveland in her lifetime by deed dated March 1st, 1889 and which dedended upon the death of the said Elizabeth Eveland to her two children T. Eugene Eveland and the said John T. Eveland and also subject to the life estate of John Eveland surviving husband of the said Elizabeth Eveland...." I found a booklet put out by the Borough of Glen Gardner as part of the celebration of the bicentennial of the country in 1976. A write-up in the booklet states that John Eveland built a tavern in 1760. The map shows that the deed for the land on which the tavern was built was issued in 1834. My house is on the same tract of land as the tavern.
