From: Linda Mott Subject: Re: Hunterdon Co Garrison Families Date: Wed, 6 May 2015 18:57:53 -0700 While researching my Garrison family who also hailed from Hunterdon Co. NJ c. late 1700s I've encountered several replies made by you in various message boards on the net that you've been researching Hunterdon Co. Garrisons as well. I contacted Perry Streeter after I read his article about his Garrison ancestry. I was surprised to see my William and Ose Roberts Garrison mentioned as possible members of this same Garrison family. Without a paper trail or a DNA match William Garrison still remains my brick wall! My ancestor known as Maj. William Garrison was born c. 1761-1771 he lived in Hopewell, NJ and married Ose Roberts abt. 1795. The Maj. died in 1835 and is buried in the Old Baptist Cem. with his wife Ose in Mercer Co, NJ. His only son was named John Roberts Parke Garrison b. 1796 in Hunterdon Co. William and Ose also had 4 daughters (one is my link.) John R P Garrison married twice both marriages in Hunterdon Co. that produced children. John R P was actually married 5 times! 1. Joanna Sutphin m. Dec. of 1812 of Blawenburg, NJ 2. Martha Titus m. Apr. of 1828 dau of Joseph Titus of near Pennington, NJ I have a printed (1909) genealogy of sorts written by John R P Garrison's daughter Sarah Mariah Garrison Hubbard. Her mother was Martha Titus, John's 2nd wife. Sarah writes about her father's remembrances of his early life in NJ and writes what was known at the time about his sisters. Most of the narrative consists of details about Sarah's siblings and half-siblings and their families locations around the US. Any insight to where I may go next would be greatly appreciated! Linda Mott ldmo@msn.com Date: Sun, 10 May 2015 12:28:59 -0700 From: Linda Mott Thanks for getting back to me.  The Mott surname was my husbands and I've gotten it back to the "English Immigrant."  It was an interesting journey which led us from MA>RI>CT>NY>Ontario and finally back to Iowa during the 1840s. I'll send along Sarah Mariah Garrison Hubbard's genealogy separately.  I warn you it's all narrative and rather hard to follow.  I've been working on untangling it into something one can follow. I can verify most of her father's, John R P Garrison's children from his 2 marriages.  Interesting most of the children from his 1st marriage stayed in Hunterdon, NJ.  The children from his 2nd marriage all moved to Indiana with him and then spread out from there.  I've looked into other Garrison lines living in NJ in the same time-frame as the Maj. including the Cumberland Co. ones.  Nothing really fit, but I haven't ruled out anything at this time.  The Maj married about 1794/5 so it seems he would have at least been past the age of 21 and possibly older.  He acquired the nickname Maj. as a result of his command of a militia company from Somerset Co during the War of 1812.  His family did spend time in Montgomery, Somerset Co.  a little east of Hopewell.  The Maj. was actually a Capt. records show.  Records also show that his son John R P Garrison was a Pvt. under him.  John used his bounty money to acquire land in Indiana (also can document.)  Sarah, John's daughter is mistaken her father was a PVT!   Linda Mott
