They seemed to have lived in Kingwood Twp, Hunterdon Co, NJ for many years, and later Burlington Co. In the attached plain text file, the entire timeline and the first three notes are extrapolated from the pension file. There are two other notes NOT extrapolated from the pension file. Looking back at archived messages I see an exchange between you, Annette and Brian, in 2020 where Brian says "I came across an affidavit under "The Marriage Act" for a William Huffman and a Pearl Lake, with her mother being Mary Petersen and father Dennis Lake." There's no associated date. Notice in the Timeline event in the attached text file dated 8 Apr 1819 where William HUFFMAN testifies (in Middlesex Co, NJ) that John LAKE is the brother of his (William's) wife. Could this be the Pearl LAKE named above? I'm not familiar with Dennis LAKE and Mary PETERSON. If the two William HUFFMANs are two different people, do either of you know who could be the parents of John LAKE (c1745-1834 Burlington Co, NJ)? -- Marshall Lake -- marshallelake@gmail.com -- http://www.mlake.net > On 2021-05-29 9:57 p.m., Marshall Lake wrote: > Hi Marshall, I'm afraid I cannot be of much help. > > These appear to be completely different people. > > I have attached a copy of the 1901 census for Ontario, and they are shown as > born in Ontario. > > I don't have your John Lake and Mary Hall in my original file. > > The marriage mentioned appears to have been 1 Jan 1911. > > While the census indicates Pearl to be a sister (of the head of household) > she is more likely a sister or daughter of the mother, Mary Petersen. > > Sorry I couldn't be more help. > > Brian..... First, there are two different William Huffmans. Brian and I had been discussing the William Huffman who was born in 1879, Napanee, Lenox Co., Ontario, Canada. He married Pearl Lake on 11 Feb 1911 in Napanee. He was not the William Huffman of New Jersey. My best guess as to the parent of the John Lake who lived in Hunterdon and Burlington is: 5John Lake; 4Thomas; 3Daniel; 2Abraham;1John of Gravesend NAME: on Hunterdon tax lists in 1778 and 1779 as "John Tho's son. Kingwood". MILITARY: assume him to be same as on records of Rev. War lists, Lake, John (son of Thomas) - Kingwood Tp, Hunterdon Co, NJ. NOTE: possibly same as in Hunterdon County, NJ Rateables, Kingwood Township, May 1778: Lake, John, 179 acres; 3h, 2c, 6p. Hunterdon County, NJ Rateables, Kingwood Township, January 1780 and February 1780: Lake, John, 172 acres; 3h, 3c, 6p, 1/3 fishery. NOTE: may or may not have been the same John Lake, b1742 as married Mary Hall. NOTE: from Peggy Oswald: Mary Hall, daughter of Theodore and Gertrude Hall married John Lake, for many years a resident of Kingwood Twp. Hunterdon, in Sussex Co., NJ....found this info in Snell's Sussex Co. History. "Abstracts of Rev War Pension Files", W99 - Lake, John and Mary; NJ line, appl 26 Jun 1818 Burlington Co., NJ, age 76. In 1820 soldier had a wife Mary, age 79 and dau Elizabeth, age 40 lived with them. Widow applied 30 Jan 1839, Burlington Co., NJ, age 93. Soldier and widow had married 1 Jan 1779 and soldier died 2 Dec 1834. As to the John Lake who died intestate and whose estate was administered 1809 by Luther Opdyke, I believe him to be: 4John; 3Daniel; 2Abraham;1John of Gravesend .....thus making him the uncle to 5John Lake of Hunterdon/Burlington. Annette (am now off to Montana to continue playing Grandma for another month)
