Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2012 07:09:57 -0700 (PDT) From: bev clancy My husband, David Smith, is the G-G-G-G-Grandson of Henry Bird/Burd of Hunterdon County, NJ 1745-1815. I know that Henry's wife was named Nancy, a nickname for Ann or Anna, and that Henry was administrator for the estate of Thomas Lake of Kingwood in 1793. I suspect that the deceased Thomas Lake was Nancy's father or brother, or some other close relative, and that her maiden name was most likely Lake. I found some discussion on your website here: http://68.109.158.95:8080/lake/NewJersey/lake14.txt from a person named Marfy Goodspeed discussing the identity of the deceased Thomas Lake. In it he speaks with confidence about Henry Bird/Burd's wife Ann being a Lake and that Henry and Ann were married in 1775. I'm curious to know what source this conclusion is based upon? I am ecstatic that there may be some definitive information confirming Nancy/Ann's identity. Also, Marfy seems to think that Ann was the daughter of Daniel Lake. I can offer this information. Henry Bird/Burd and wife Nancy had a grandson named Daniel Burd b. about 1831. When doing my research, that first name seemed to come out of nowhere. But if Daniel Burd's paternal G-Grandfather was Daniel Lake, that would explain a lot. Attached is a death return from Oxford Twp., NJ for William Burd, son of Henry and Nancy Burd/Bird in 1855. It identifies William's parents as Henry and Nancy of Kingwood. Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2012 13:40:11 -0700 (PDT) From: bev clancy Henry Bird/Burd was born about 1745, lived in Kingwood, NJ and died intestate on April 10, 1815. He is taxed on 86 acres, 1 horse and 5 cows in 1786 according to Ken Stryker-Rodda's NJ Tax Ratables 1778-1780. Henry's Accounts are sworn to by son William Burd at the HC Surrogate's records. (William's Warren County death return, naming Henry and Nancy Burd of Kingwood as his parents, was attached in my previous email). Henry and Nancy/Ann/Anna Bird had at least 6 children: Thomas Bird b. about 1776 Anna b. about 1777 m. John Kiple Joseph Bird b. 21 Dec. 1778 John Bird b. about 1780 William Bird b. 1781 d. 14 July 1855 in Oxford, Warren County, NJ Henry Bird b. 12 June 1786 d. 18 Aug. 1851 in Kingwood m. Catherine Bowman Nancy/Ann Bird seems to have died before 1798. Henry Bird married Anna Kiple, (daughter of George Kiple according to the marriage record), on May 22, 1798. Both were living in Amwell at the time. I am 90% certain Henry is the same Henry Bird, son of Elisha Bird 1721-1821, mentioned in Elisha's will. Elisha Bird wrote his will in 1815, but died on December 27, 1821. In Elisha's will, he mentions son Reuben Bird has died (Reuben died on May 9, 1815 a month after Henry), and names sons Henry, John and Jonathan as executors. However, in 1821 when Elisha's will is probated, only John and Jonathan sign as executors. The only other bit of info I have is that on June 25, 1756 the Pennsylvania Gazette listed one Henry Bird of Kingwood as having a letter remaining in the Post Office in Trenton (NJ Archives First Series Volume 20, p.50). I'm not certain if this is my Henry Bird, at age 11-ish, or if there was another Henry Bird in Kingwood at that time. Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2012 14:16:33 -0700 (PDT) From: bev clancy I know Henry Burd's 1745-1815 son Henry 1786-1851 was baptised in the Kingwood Baptist church in 1786. Henry Bird, son of Henry, is buried in the Baptistown cemetery along with his wife Catherine (Bowman) Bird 1789-1862, sister Anna Bird (I think, daughter of Henry and Nancy/Ann Burd) 1788-1856 and Sarah Bird 1790-1851 (not sure who she is). Anna Bird 1788-1856 appears in the 1850 census age 61 in Henry Bird's 1786-1851 house. Henry Bird 1786-1851 and John Bird b. about 1780, sons of Henry 1745-1815, appear side by side in the 1830 census in Kingwood Twp. Both are in their 40s. Daniel Burd 1831-1871, grandson of Henry and Nancy Burd, committed suicide at age 40. He is buried in Rosemont cemetery along with his wife, Sarah Ann (Hartpence) Burd 1834-1911, and son William Burd 1862-1902.
