I know you know all of this, I'm just catching my brain up to speed.  Sometime in 1986 Fred Sisser wrote a book on the Bird line.  I have screen shots of some pages of this book.  It was never published as far as I can tell, but a typed copy exists or existed at one time at the HCHS.  I think.  I've attached page 4, in case you don't already have this. Elisha Bird made his will in 1815 and died around 1821.  He names his 4 sons and mentions that Reuben has predeceased him.  He names his other 3 sons Jonathan, John and Henry as executors.  But in 1821 only John and Jonathan show up to probate the will suggesting that Henry is dead (aligning with Henry Bird who dies in 1815).  According to Sisser, that Henry married a Nancy and suggests she may have been a Lake. There are the minutes of the Kingwood Baptist Church at the NJ state library.  I've only seen extracts referencing the Bird family, but more families are in there.  Have you seen this book?  N.J. State Library in Trenton in "Hunterdon County Records" A974.971 D244.1 I'm sorry I don't have more useful information.  I have a copy of Elisha's will and hand written notes I copied from Henry's estate.  I had no smart phone back then, so I just copied verbatim from the probate records.  It's very brief and mentions no Lakes. bev On Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 04:08:09 PM EDT, Marshall Lake wrote: The main reason I was getting in touch was to see if you've progressed in your research of the LAKE - BIRD/BURD connection. I can't determine for sure for which Thomas LAKE Henry BIRD/BURD was the administrator.  I would presume Henry BURD/BIRD would be a son-in-law to Thomas LAKE but he certainly doesn't have to be. Thomas LAKE died intestate and was of Kingwood Twp.  It appears as if the estate was settled 7 Feb 1799 when Margaret LAKE, Thomas LAKE & John LAKE (children, siblings?) were given cash. I've done a lot of research concerning all the LAKEs of Hunterdon County. There was one family of LAKEs in Kingwood Twp ... Daniel LAKE (c1700 Richmond Co, NY - 1775 Kingwood Twp), spouse unknown.  In his will he names children:  William, Abraham, John, Thomas, daughter (spouse of Absolom RUNYON) and Timothy.  Very little is known about the children. (Daniel first shows up in Bethlehem Twp in 1741 ... probably earlier, Kingwood Twp was formed from Bethlehem Twp c1746). For a while I've presumed the children, Thomas & Timothy, to have went to Loudoun Co, VA where a Thomas LAKE & Timothy LAKE show up in lots next to each other as early as 1767.  (Thomas was born c1736, Timothy born unknown).  However, there is other evidence that suggests Thomas stayed in Hunterdon County.  One example is a recognizance in 1779 in Hunterdon Co which names a Thomas LAKE Sr and a Thomas LAKE Jr, both of Kingwood Twp. Daniel LAKE (c1700 Richmond Co, NY - 1775 Kingwood Twp) and presumably his descendants are the only LAKEs who lived in Kingwood Twp as far as I can ascertain. There was, though, another Thomas LAKE (1718 Richmond Co, NY - 1787 Bethlehem Twp) who lived close to Kingwood Twp and could have been mistaken as living in Kingwood Twp.  (I think this is the case in a different document.)  This Thomas did not have a son named Thomas, but Sr & Jr isn't always used to describe a father & son ... sometimes it's used to differentiate between two men with the same name, one older and one younger. It seems like the most likely candidate for the Thomas LAKE of Kingwood Twp who died c1792 and whose estate was administered by Henry BIRD/BURD was Thomas, son of Daniel LAKE (c1700 Richmond Co, NY - 1775 Kingwood Twp). Hunterdon Co. Thing is, when I search the NJ State Library catalog, I come up with nothing of that title.  I've tried various ways of spelling Baptistown along with Church and Minutes.  Zilch.  So I don't know? https://eds.s.ebscohost.com/eds/search/advanced?vid=0&sid=7d85ea86-a5c2-40f6-aa4d-51178526fdde%40redis [eds.s.ebscohost.com] I know records at the HC Surrogates office begin in 1804.  So Thomas Lake will in 1794 won't be there.  If you are local, perhaps a trip to the NJ State Archives or State Library (I'm not sure which, they are in the same building I think) might help.  Request file 1685J from 1794 and see if there's anything useful in there to determine just who that Thomas Lake is. Sorry I'm not of more help. On Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 12:19:56 PM EDT, Marshall Lake wrote: I hadn't seen Sisser's BIRD research.  Thanks for attaching the page. D'Autrechy in 1979 ?  If so, yes, I have a copy of the book.  A good resource. Thanks for getting back to me.  It sure looks like Henry BIRD was a son-in-law of Thomas LAKE.  My problem is that I can't determine for sure which Thomas LAKE it is. Here's a snippet from The Hunterdon Gazzette Sept 1, 1825 (Item at top in center column).  William 'Kemple' has died and his property was under the 'tenure' of Thomas Lake (may or may not be the Thomas Lake Fellow Bondsman above).  Henry Burd married Anna 'Kiple' in 1798.   (May or may not be the Henry Bird, died in 1815, son of Elisha, Married to Nancy possible Lake).   Then an Anna Bird married a John Kipple in 1802.  I do not know if that is the same Anna.  Either way the Kipple/Kiple/Kemple and Bird/Burd families were connected just as the Birds and Lakes seem to be. bev Date: Sun, 31 Jul 2022 02:34:39 +0000 (UTC) From: bev clancy To: Marshall Lake Subject: Re: LAKE / BIRD Parts/Attachments: 1.1 OK ~212 lines Text 1.2 Shown ~187 lines Text 2 OK 693 KB Image 3 OK 738 KB Image ---------------------------------------- I didn't think we knew where they were buried, but I was hoping.  I do agree that Thomas Lake died 1794 intestate and Thomas Lake fellow Bondsman to Henry Bird in his probate are most likely father and son.
