This family is found in the 1850 Raritan Twp, Hunterdon Co., NJ census, pg 61: Charles Lake, 38, laborer, NJ Hannah, 33, NJ Mary F., 14, NJ The census gives Charles a birth year of c1812 and a calculation from the cemetery transcription gives him a birth date of 16 Jul 1813; This seems to match up; The census gives Mary a birth year of 1836 and a calculation of the cemetery transcription gives her a birth date of 21 Dec 1835; This also seems to match well; Hannah was listed as being 33 in 1850, giving her a birth year of c1817; The transcription error in the cemetery records seems to be in her death year of 1808; Using a death year of 1908, she would have a birth date of 4 Jun 1814; It's also possible that there could have been an error in the reading of the last 8; and if it were actually a 6;, this would give her a birth year of 1816, which is closer to the census data; Regardless of whether the error is in a reading of the headstone or an enumeration error in the census (or both), a better argument can be made for her dying in the 1900s vs the 1800s. I first found this on rootsweb on their world connect board, and then later went to the library at Rutgers and saw the bible records for the family of John Swallow and Catherine Bowers. The death date I have for Anna Lake is a 8 days later than the Anna Swallow listed in the bible. I don't know where I'll find a secord source to confirm that they are the same person. [The source for John Swallow and Catherine Bowers is the Swallow family Bible which is in the NJ Genealogical Society.] (The NJ State Archives lists Anna Lake's death as October 24, 1862. She married Henry Lake in 1813. The Swallow bible doesn't give spouses husbands' names. It does give a death date for Anna.)
