From the book: Hopewell Valley Heritage, by Alice Blackwell Lewis, Hopewell, NJ: The Hopewell Museum, 1973 Robert Robbins rates a mention on p. 174 (this is a direct quote) -- 'About the Church and Cemetery' On the south side of Harbourton Road at the Junction of the one from Mount Airy, stands the village church. It was originally a Baptist Meeting House. It was called the Second Baptist Church of Hopewell, the first such church was already well established in what is now Hopewell. On March 21, 1805, a group of residents of the Harbourton area met for the purpose of establishing their church as a branch of the Hopewell Church. The following were duly elected and sworn as Trustees of the Second Baptist Church and Congregation: James Hill, Moses Quick, Daniel Stillwell, Nathaniel Hison, William Houghton, Robert Robbins and Joseph Salyers. The same day the Trustees agreed to purchase one half acre of land upon which to build a meeting house, from George Ege for the sum of $106.67.
