In the New Jersey Supreme Court papers are some arrest warrants for Richard Robins of New Brunswick Twp, Middlesex County. (Case involved debt to Robert Scott) The warrants are dated from about 1735 to 1741 (dated by 9th to 15th year of reign of George II). On the back of the last one is noted "The Defendt lives Somewhere about Maples Town". Can anyone please identify this Richard Robins? Are any other Robins associated with this locality? Thanks. John, I've not found any Richard Robins in Middlesex who fits his description & haven't found his name listed in any Middlesex Co. deeds between 1720-1790. Not all the deeds were recorded & those that were housed in local court houses were lost due to lack of care & in some cases thrown out. My source for this is Richard Hutchinson one of the most knowledgeable researchers of early NJ deeds. According to Richard, he has witnessed this first hand destruction of deeds. I believe we can identify all the other early 1700 Richard Robins in NJ. If this Richard Robins was being charged for his debts possibly he had no property. Just a thought but it's possible he fled from his debtors & joined his relatives in NC. Did Richard Robins who witnessed the will of Joseph Robins, Jr. in 1754 appear in NC between 1735 & 1741? The earliest record I've found of Richard Robins in North Carolina is a 1751 tax list in a part of Granville Co. that became part of Rowan Co. Where was Maples Town? From the "Gazetteer" by Thomas Gordon, "Mapletown, hamlet on Millstone River, a short distance above the Stoney Brook, 2 miles S.E. of Princton, 15 miles from New Brunswick." Approximate distance from Maplestown to some general areas where other Robins lived before or about 1740, Crosswicks, 17 mi, Allentown, 22 mi, Freehold, 23 mi, in Monmouth Co. Flemington, 18 mi, Kingwood, 25 mi. in Hunterdon Co. Richard Robins is the only Robins to my knowledge found at Maplestown 1735-1741. I'm new so I'm not sure this will help. But there was a Richard Robbins, son of Daniel Robbins and Hope Potter, born Feb 14, 1673, Woodbridge, Middlesex, NJ.. He married twice, but I don't have much else on him. His wives were Hannah Moores and Catherine Holmes. He was one of eleven children. Hope this helps or at least eliminates a possibility.
