MAR 10, 1774, son of John Bayles and Anna Davison. He died at his home near Kingston on Monday, AUG 2, 1847 (See the Journal of Sarah Staats Bayles). He is buried in the churchyard of the 1st Presbyterian Ch., Kingston. Rebecca Gulick, b. SEP 1785, was the daughter of John Gulick and Margaret Van Dyke. I believe that Robert and rebecca were both descendants of Geertruyt Willekens (Jochems) who married 1st, Hendrick Gulick (Rebecca's ancestor) and married 2nd, Claes Claessen, Smit (Robert's ancestor). Children of Robert and Rebecca were: William Gulick Bayles, Susan Ann Bayles Dunn, Dr. George Bayles, Robert James Bayles, Margaretta L. Bayles, Emma Bayles McAuley, Maria Bayles, Dr. John G. Bayles, Alexander H. Bayles. * William Bayles, b. SEP 13, 1774; d. AUG 29, 1853, son of John Bayles and Susannah Burtis. Abigail Maple was b. APR 11, 1785, d. JUN 18, 1874. She was probably the daughter of Margaret Maple who, at age 88, was in the household of William and Abigail in 1850. Children of William and Abigail: Emely Bayles, Harriet Bayles Griggs, James Bayles, Benjamin M. Bayles, John Bayles, Margaret Ann Bayles, William Bayles, Stephen Bayles, Sarah Bayles Van Duyne. * William Bayles, b. NOV 9, 1802; d. 1885, was the son of Robert Bayles and Rebecca Gulick. Sarah "Sally" Cruser, b. NOV 6, 1802; d. APR 22, 1877, was the dau. of Frederick Cruser and Catherine Van Dyke. It is of interest to note that after the revolutionary War, Frederick Cruser purchased "Rocky Hill" which is also known as the "Washington HQs". This house is where Gen. Washington penned his "Farewell to the Troops". William Bayles' son Robert was proud to have been born at "Rocky Hill". Children of William Bayles and Sally Cruser: Robert Bayles, Martha Bayles, George A. Bayles, Frederick Cruser Bayles, William Harrison Bayles, Westley Hunt Bayles. * Harriet Bayles was b. 1809, d. 1894. She was the dau. of William Bayles and Abigail Maple. John Griggs was b. 1811, d. 1891. Harriet and John had at least one child, Lucinda Griggs b. 1834. Lucinda Griggs married Daniel D. Hunt. * Sarah Bayles was the dau. of William Bayles and Abigail Maple. She married Abraham or Abram Van Duyne. * Emma Bayles, b. JAN 29, 1815; d. JUN 30, 1840, was the dau. of Robert Bayles and Rebecca Gulick. She married the Rev, William H. McAuley in a double ceremony with their friends Sarah T. Comfort and the Rev. John C. Rankin. The two grooms were recent graduates of the princeton Seminary and after the ceremony the two couples went to India as Missionaries (see the Journal of Sarah Staats Bayles). William H. McAuley died near his home in Stockton, AL, JUN 21, 1885. The McAuleys returned from India about 1850 and settled near William's childhood home in Stockton, AL. The McAuley children were: Anna Rebecca Brown, Emma Margaretta Russell, Eliza Janetta Mallory, William Daniel McAuley, Robert Chalmers McAuley, Mary Elizabeth Rowie. The first four children were born in India, the last two in Alabama. * John Bayles, b. MAR 6, 1816; d. FEB 28, 1848, son of William Bayles and Abigail Maple. Mary Ann Blackwell, b. MAY 3, 1821; d. MAY 9, 1858, probably the daughter of John and Mary Blackwell and the sister of Augustus, Henry and Caroline Blackwell. John and Mary Ann had a least one child, Henry B. Bayles b. AUG 22,1847, at Monmouth Junction, Middlesex Co., NJ. I have additional information about the above BAYLES family members. Barbara Ribling bribling at earthlink.net
