Thanks for posting the poems as a follow-up to your Scottish history.

I agree that often trades stay in a family. There was a John D.
Robins shoemaker born abt. 1818 in Upper Freehold, Monmouth Co. His
wife Elizabeth was born abt. 1830. They had children Sarah b. abt.
1854, William abt. 1858 & John abt. 1858. The boys were twins. Also
a Jacob Robins shoemaker born abt. 1806 in Upper Freehold, Monmouth
Co. I don't think these men fit the time frame for your John Robins
shoemaker in PA but thought I'd mention them anyhow. Do you have a
birth date or an approximate one for your John Robins?

Approximately 1780 birth. Death date is 1856 Comegaugh Township, Indiana County, Penn. Beleive father was Obadiah Robbins. Maybe they lived close by each other?
