He died in 1897 of tuberculosis at the home of his sister, Harriet Emma Rorick Demarest, having moved there from Detroit to be nursed by her in his final illness. (His wife, Carrie Isabel "Minnie" Spearin, and daughter Claribel remained in Detroit.) Harriet was married to Joel Campbell Demarest. Both Harriet and Emma are buried in Newton Cemetery. Is there any chance that William is buried in Newton as well, as Harriet and Joel would have made the arrangements? If not, is there a way to find exactly where William is located? He is buried in Waterloo Cemetery in Byram. His marriage to Rachel Wallen on 25 Nov 1840 is found in the New Jersey marriage records. Rachel lived only 2 more years and was buried in Lookwood cemetery. Every tree I've found on ancestry.com with this couple, except my own, has Rachel as the mother of John's children. However, all of his children were born before 1810, 30 years before they were married! These trees usually list a 2nd (or 1st) marriage date for John and Rachel on 11 Aug 1793, but there is no source listed and I can't find a source for this. John's memorial on findagrave.com says he had 3 wives. He's buried next to his 3rd, Catherine Johnson, in Waterloo. Can anyone tell me who his 1st wife was? I suspect she, whoever she is, married him in 1793 and is the mother of his children, not Rachel. thanks in advance for any help you can offer! I believe all these streams were located in Wantage. I would appreciate any information to help place these creeks, understanding that some were small and local and may no longer exist. * Beach Brook -- I believe this was/is part of the Deep Clove Kill, somewhere around Colesville * Red Kill -- described in deeds as being "on the west side of drowned lands on a branch of the Walkill" * Mud Kill -- a west branch of the Walkill; apparently had proximity to Rutger's Kill, also a west branch of the Walkill; I suspect these creeks were/are around the present-day NJ-NY border * Van Ahern Falls -- possibly Van Aken or Van Auken Falls? referred to as the Upper Falls near the Mudkill (west branch of Walkill) * Crupple or Cripple Bush Run, Wantage, a small run of water tied into the Deep Clove Kill; also a reference to a swamp called "Jacob Decker's cripple bush" I'm sure there are more brook and creek names to add to this list, but these are the ones of immediate interest to me. Any assistance in placing them is appreciated. We have not had any information on her parents. One slight clue appears in a biography of one of her children, my great-grandfather Jacob T. Rorick, which states that, "His grandmother Moore was an aunt of Rev. John Russell, who was a candidate of the prohibition party for president." Mark died in 1863, and she died a year later, leaving behind minor children, including my great-grandfather. The children seem to have been scattered to different households. In the 1865 New Jersey census, Jacob and one of his sisters appear to be in the household of Mary Moore (the 1865 state census doesn't list households specifically, but does group household members together). It seems likely that Mary Moore is a relative, but I'm unsure how she is related to Anne and her children. In addition, one of Mark's sister married a Lewis Moore, and it's unclear how he and Anne might be related. Any information would be deeply appreciated. Thank you. Katurah Ann married Jacob W Smith, and lives between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She would have been born about 1811/1812, and passed in or around 1895. I am somewhat sure that her father's name is William McKeeby. I am looking for any possible information on my 4th great grandmother Katurah Ann McKeeby (may have also gone by her middle name "Ann"). Per my grandmother (now deceased), the Decker's were from NY & NJ & PA. She wrote: "Alexander Decker born 1789 was a very tall man. He operated a ferryboat on the Delaware River between New Jersey & Pennsylvania, he was widely known & well respected by all who knew him. They Decker's followed the Quaker faith." He is listed in the 1850 Knowlton, Warren County, NJ Census. He died in June 1870 & is buried in Fairview Cem. in Knowlton, NJ. Keziah (grandma's spelling, but have seen Kasah, Kzia) is listed in the 1880 Knowlton Census with a grand daughter, Hester Titman. Keziah Adams is the daughter of Alexander Adams & Ann Bellis. Keziah's sister, Anna Adams married Jacob Decker, but I don't know if he was a brother to Alexander (it seems possible, but..). Alexander & Keziah had these children: 1. Alexander born 1811. Hearn (born 2/17/1897) also in Laurel. Mary's birth certificate states she was legitimate but there is no record of marriage between Laura and Willie. There is a marriage certificate between Willie and Louise Anne Rathel Hearn (born 1910). New Jersey 1915 census has a 15 year old Delaware-born Laura M. Swain living with a Joshua Frank Swain (born 9/1884) and Ethel R. Bradley Swain (born 8/1888). Given the facts that Ethel is only 12 years older than Laura and that she didn't marry Joshua until 12/1910, it is assumed that Ethel isn't her biological mother. The confusing part is that the Maryland 1920 census shows the same now 20 year old Delaware-born Laura M. Swain (and her two year old daughter Mary M. Hearn) living as the daughter of a Samuel E. (born 1863) and Mary E. Russell (born 1870). So between 1915 and 1920 Laura moved from Joshua and Ethel's house in New Jersey to Samuel and Mary's house in Maryland. In those 5 years, her child was born, so it's possible that was what caused her living situation to change. It is assumed from the multiple census records that Joshua Franklin Swain was her biological father and Mary Russell was her biological mother. However, Mary was 14 years older than Joshua. There is much mentioned about Joshua's children with Ethel but nothing about Laura or her biological mother. There is also nothing listed regarding Mary Russell's maiden name or any biological children she may have had before she married Samuel. The Russell's could also have adopted Laura, as there is no link to her being biologically related to them. The State of Delaware does not have a birth certificate on file for Laura. I'm trying to find the parents of Phebe Titsworth, b. 1788, d. 07 Oct 1846, interred in the Old Clove Church Cemetery, Wantage, Sussex County, New Jersey. My Phebe was married to Isaac Tuttle/Tuthill in Sussex Co., NJ on 04 May, 1805. And there is a Phebe mentioned in the will of Henry C. Titsworth (husband of Martha Wilson) of Wantage, NJ. However, there's another Phebe Titsworth, b. 05 Jun 1787, who married David Vanderhoof about 1803 in New York, who died in 1834 in Edwardsburg, Cass, Michigan, and her parents are alleged by some to be this Henry C. Titsworth and Martha Wilson. Would anyone know/be able to determine the lineage of "my" Phebe, wife of Isaac Tuttle? Thanks, Kevin P.S. Cross-posted to the Titsworth Surname board. Good morning. Ogden's Furnace https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.northam.usa.states.newjersey.counties.sussex/6719 Thu, 18 Jan 2018 02:41:41 GMT I had an ancestor named Jacob Wilkins in NYC who had a brass foundry called Ogden's Furnace, supposedly in Newark, NJ, in the 1770s. However, I have never been able to find anything about such a place. Recently, searching again, I find the furnace mentioned in reports and scholarly articles as either "near Newark" OR "near Newton, Sussex Co., NJ." I find the latter much more likely and believe that some of the sources must be using a misprint in the original runaway slave newspaper notice. But can anyone set me straight on whether such a furnace existed near Newton in the 18th century? His wife's name was Alta E. Benis. Illinois Deaths and Stillborn records show George's parents as John J. Balfrey and Mary Aydt. This is the only record I can find where George's mother is recorded as Mary Aydt. In all the many ancestry trees for George his mother's name is recorded as Marie Gayer. No records are shown to support that though. Does anyone reading this have any records they can share that state George's true mother? Or was John J. Balfrey married twice? Marie Gayer didn't die until 1878 so with George being born in 1870 she could be his mother. Any help with this is greatly appreciated.
