Hi Sara, we had spoke about having cousins in Tucumcare, New Mexico area as far back as 1900. I was wondering if you had come across any of them. This would be a descendant from my Aaron Robbins, 1785-1874, who had a son Daniel Robbins. I believe he went west and was a teacher at the state college there in abt 1908. He may have had a daughter, Mamie Robbins, who died there later on in the 1900's. Any suggestions on how I should look further. Maybe a way back behind Aaron this way? If there have been Robbins connections in Tucumcari, NM (about 175 miles away from me, in Albuquerque), I haven't been aware of them. My first thought was that Brian might contact the New Mexico State University Alumni office, to see if they had information about Daniel as a faculty member, or Leon as a student, in the early 20th century. My inquiries several years ago to my own father's college were kindly and graciously received. Their phones numbers are 866.678.2586 or 575.646.3616, and other contact information may be found at the bottom of the Alumni home page at . (Sorry, it didn't want to let me copy-and-paste.) A small bit of history: "In 1889, the New Mexico territorial legislature authorized the creation of an agricultural college and experiment station in or near Las Cruces. The institution, which was designated as the land-grant college for New Mexico under the Morrill Act, was named the New Mexico College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts. . . . By 1960, the school had grown greatly, and its name was changed by state constitutional amendment to New Mexico State University." NMSU continues the thrive in Las Cruces, NM, about 300 miles from Tucumcari. Best of luck! Didn't find them in 1860. Found Aaron Jr in 1870 in Dunbar, Fayette, PA age 42 a sand workman, his wife Hannah 37 from PA, and children Eliza 17, Bella 10, Sarah 8, John 7, Daniel 5, and Anna 2, all born in PA. Again in Dunbar, Fayette, PA in 1880, Aaron age 50, Hannah 47, and children Sarah 19, John 16, Daniel 14, Annie 13, Lillie 7, and Alice 4, all born in PA. 1900 in Stanberry, Gentry MO is Daniel born Sept 1864, Susana April 1875 in Iowa, a son Almer A born in PA Jan 1887, and Leon A born in Missouri July 1899. Also found Daniel in 1910 in Justice Precinct 4 in Reeves, TX as a school teacher, his wife Susie age 35, and son Leon age 11 born in Missouri. It says they've been married 12 years and had 1 child. Hope I'm not telling you what you already know. If you want census images, let me know and I'll email them off list. I also found the following by googling, which would seem to offer the hope of more avenues of research/information in the Ellis Book. We are aware of most of the information posted here but of course if it can help some other cousin, that would be great! I'm hoping some cousin dose see this and is able to help me get behind my 3rd great grandfather Aaron Robbins, from Monmouth Co, NJ born 1785-died 1/1874 in Connelsville Pa. His father an elderly man listed on the Connellsville Taxables, all the way up to 1817 and is probably the year he died in Connellsville, Pa. They all were brick/stone masons. His father's name was Ephraim. Many Ephraim's, but none removing west or out of NJ as far as I have been able to find out. For a time we thought the Aaron Robbins, whose mother was a Page and is listed in Hutchinson's Robbins portion of his work in the later part of the 1800's, was the Aaron Robbins in question but this is not him. My Aaron had bothers, or half brothers James and John. James was a musician drummer on the 1812 war and John like his brother were masons and lived and died in Connellsville. Anyone coming across any glint of these guys back in NJ would be greatly appreciated. All were married when they arrived there in Fayette Co, Pa in 1806. Literally one brick keeping it from connecting to all these other well documented Robbins back in NJ. I wonder if anyone ever has come across what ever happened to the other children Aaron Robbins Jr had with wife Hannah Graham, that is besides son Daniel, who went west as noted above. There are some Robbins descendants in this area who I believe may be descendant of perhaps either the other son John, or even some son of the Daniel who wound up in New Mexico in the early 1900's as a university Professor.
