From: RustyMuffins@aol.com Date: Sun, 18 Jan 2004 17:20:21 EST My grandfather was born as Henry Fisher probably in Fairfield Co. or Holmes Co. Ohio and was adopted by Nathaniel M. Lake (born 1820 in Greenville, Greene Co., NY I think) after Nathaniel married my great grandmother, Elizabeth Fisher. My father was Henry Edward Louis Lake (born near Kankakee, IL and died in Hemet, CA). Fran From: Fran Date: Mon, 19 Jan 2004 21:16:27 EST Subject: Nathaniel M. Lake - Greenville, Greene Co. NY 1820 I would really like to know more about Nathaniel M. Lake. The children he had with my great grandmother would be my grandfather's half brothers and half sisters. Nathaniel M. Lake I believe he was the son of Sherman & Ann (Minthorn) Lake from Greenville, Greene Co. NY. The early census of Sherman match the right number of children. They moved to Bloom Township, Fairfield Co. OH about 1825. Sherman & Ann (Minthorn) Lake children: Nathaniel M. Lake b. Apr 1820 NY (I don't have proof that he is their son) Rufus Lake b. abt. 1824 NY Martin Lake b. abt. 1825 OH Louis Lake b. abt. 1828 OH Electra A. b. abt. 1831 William Lake b. Dec. 1836 OH Mary Catherine Lake b. 15 Jun 1839 OH Miranda Lake b. abt. 1854 (?) Nathaniel married Eve Fisher in 1841 (she died in 1857) Their children were: (Alfred) Perry Lake b. 1852 Miranda Lake b. 1854 d. 1856 Infant daughter Lake b & d 1857 Nathaniel married Elizabeth Fisher in 1858 1860 census children listed are: Amanda Fisher 11, Mary Fisher 6, Henry Fisher 5 (my grandfather) A William Lake was listed as a farm hand, I would think he was related because there weren't that many Lakes there. I don't know where 8 year old Alfred (Perry) Lake was living. 1870 Census shows Nathaniel as 50 years old and born in NY living in Marshall Co., Roberts, IL Amanda 20 Alfred P. 19 (His name was Alfred Perry) Elizabeth 17 Henry 15 Anna Ann 11 Minnie 8 Lenna (?Jennie) 7 Willis 5 Luella 3 Oscar 5/12 Living near him is Louis & Ann Lake (I'm guessing Louis was Nathaniel's brother) Ann D. 14 Elgin 10 Amanda 8 Gen Sherman 4 1880 Census Nathaniel birth year 1820, Birthplace NY Age 60 Father & Mother's birthplace NY 2 additional children: Denver G. Lake Thomas Lake 1900 Census living in Kankakee with his son Denver G. Lake & his daughter Luella Lake. He was buried 26 Sept. 1900 at Mound Grove Cemetery in Kankakee, IL. Per this census he was born in 1820 in NY and both of his parents were born in NY. He had 3 children with Eve (Fisher) Lake and 8 children with Elizabeth (Fisher) Lake. I was told that most of the Lake's in Bloom Township, Farifield County, OH came from Greenville, Greene Co. NY by a man who's family is connected to the Lakes there. Per probate record he died on or about the 23rd day of September 1900. Per LDS film on probates. He left no last will or testament and Luella had a bond of $1200 so the property would not be lost or destroyed.
